In my earlier days of spinning I always wondered what other kind of people did it, where they were from, what they were like, etc...I was looking at the articles and I noticed the poll "Are We Born Spinners?" which dealt with astrological signs and the ratios in spinners
I thought maybe we could have another poll or maybe just a big thread about what everyone's level/area of education is. I know we've got all sorts of people in here from Doctors to people who perform for a living and I was just kinda curious.
I know that both juggling and spinning have a fairly diverse group of people in them, but I've never really had the chance to meet many in person. I'm sure you all know Canada has a very little (try no) scene for either one.
I think the people on the other side of the pond might have a better idea than I do, but still, it's fun to read through all of it front of you.
PS. If this should have been in Social Chat rather than Discussion could someone move it? I figure there is possibility for indepth discussion and debate here but I'll leave it up to an op to move it if they feel it should be).

I'm doing a BA in Journalism at the moment. Once (if) I graduate, that'll be my educational level. It has nothing to do with my spinning-ness.
As for meeting other spinners, feel free to take a spring break to the UK and come to Falmouth.

I reckon there may be more correlation if you look at mindsets/outlooks rather than education...isnt there a saying about 'it aint what you know but what you do with it?'

I was home educated, I have no qualifications (thats none at all).
I only started spinning because I spent a long time with other spinners from the age of 8 or 9.
This should be an interesting thread...

i have a bachelor of arts & a bachelor of social science (human services).
waaay too long in lectures and tutorials have warped my mind...
but i got into twirling after i finished uni...during that time searching for the elusive "real job"...which i seem to have stumbled upon...and now i spin more than ever!!

BA honours in social studies but do loads of Youth work, i am currently teaching 8 kids poi and their parents have said its helping them at school etc. infact i am in the process of starting my own youth group. i would to be a teacher but other business plans are also in the process. i am also studying a business degree and accountancy

Well, I've got a PhD in Statistics. None of the people I work with in academia are interested in spinning, although they keep egging me on to spin for them once they saw what I do in the local newspaper. I'd say my education doesn't have anything to do with me spinning, other than allowing me to meet the person responsible for me getting to see poi. maybe grad school students are more prone to the lifestyle that they would see someone spinning in though than just a straight laced corporate type job.

B.A. in English here, and I work a government job, albeit one that funds the arts. I think there may be some truth in Spritie's observation re: people in corporate jobs, though I know a couple of spinners who were in corporate jobs and left them after discovering spinning.

Im a lazy student bum, fulfilling the stereotypical view of a lazy student bum, studying my first year again, for a BA in Computing and German.

I'm not sure how to describe my level of education. Everything I know about the field i'm in is self taught. I learn at my own pace which tends to be incompatible with the school\university structure.

The 2nd I am the manager of a food booth (Staff of 12 and myself) in a renaissance festival. The 3rd I am a cook/dishwasher/cashier (3x the jobs, 3x the hours, 3x the money) in an italian bakery/deli/cafe.
I also teach martial arts at my dojo (ages 4-8, 9-15, and 16 and up), and on a good week can manage 40 hours of community service there.
Means the only time I have for spinning is late at night, around 10pm to 2 am, and random slots of time here and there during the day.

I'm in the 3rd year of my 4-year MEng Computer Science.
The majority of circusy people seem to be well-educated - I'm not sure why, but I wouldn't have thought this would be the case. I guess in my head there's still this vague idea of kids running away to join the circus and growing up in a big top

Nor would most even have the time to spin let alone talk about it on an internet board Some of them are to busy trying to make it day to day, others are to busy doing what ever it is they do.
I don't consider my self wealthy at all, I'm on the lower end of middle class bordering lower class (if there is really a firm distinction between the two). It's not like twirling is something for the wealthy, It's something for the open minded And the open minded are usually the ones who have access to mind opening things (yay internet!).
Of course there is probably a good number of spinners out there who are living on the streets, maybe even busking to get by.
I think it's safe to assume there is at least some relation that all of the HoP spinners share I'm just not sure where it is yet. It's not that we're all highly educated, or wealthy (I'm sure some of us are on the other end of the spectrum with me ), must be something else

I'm doing a BA at the moment, majoring in Japanese and Indonesian, with the intention to do a teaching diploma afterwards. Maybe go and teach in japan for a year, also.
I don't think there is so much a correlation between education and spinning as there is between spinning and the desire to be involved in something unique and surreal. There is something magical about the way certain people are drawn towards spinning, and towards eachother.

ahhh by highly educated i did not think people meant to what degree of education you achieved or job you now have, but more on the type of thinking process that some have. lol i totaly flunked high school well not totaly but near enough, when it was career day my adviser said i should stick to a more realistic goal of factory work rather than becoming a teacher and working with 10-18 year olds, bless her.

i think the most similar educaton most poi/jugglers have in common is an understanding of how to play...
i got no degrees.. some gcse's and N.V.Q in customer service...
oh and i have played for 15 years with jugglie stuff... thats got to be an education..
