OK so first an apology to the admin guys. Sorry but I searched numerous times for the original thread and couldn't find it.
Next. Just thought that you should all know that throwing your poi is really cool and looks great.
Next. It's great for when you F**K up. eg. Your really goin all out in a btb reverse weave on poi slips and shoots in to the air. Because you have practised catching the poi you can carry on as if nothing went wrong.
Also: hardly anyone does em!!!
Next: there are a number of different throws.
Weave throws- the easiest
Butterfly throws- little harder
Corkscrew throws-harder again
Double throws-twice as hard as a single of that type of throw.
I'm not going to tell you how to do them because theyre pretty self explanitary and if you can find the other thread then it's all on there, however if the other thread no longer exists then I'll write it all out.
This is more of an advanced class.
Step one) Put a 180 into your throw. eg. reverse weave-release-turn-catch-forward weave.
Step two) More spins/trurns
Step three) BTB throws
Step four) Under arm/legh throws. I like the under arm here is a faviourate variation. this is throwing the right poi only...
reverse weave-move the right hand behind the back and across to the other side, just as you would to change from reverse weave to a btb reverse weave, keep the left arm out straight on the left hand side. Break down: both poi spinning reverse-side plane-on left hand side-the left arm out like a scare crow-the right arm tucked behind the back-right hand protruding about hip level on left hand side- right poi spinning a reverse side plane. Now you'll notice that the right poi will catch on your left arm, the idea is that you release the poi before it hits your arm, the best time is just before it reaches verticle. now turn 180 and catch go into forward weave. this is really nice when the move is done slowly but also when you get good height with the throw.
I'll put thebutterfly stuff and the corkscrew stuff up later because i've run out of energy

i can do it all the time with my socks, but i've only caught it once on fire, damn chains & loops are hard to see in the dark
i had kind of wondered if it would be easier to use heavier handles/loops. would a weighted end be easier to throw/catch?

I like doing throws from TTN.
You can either let them go over to the other side
or keep them on the same side,
So if you release them when your right hand is under your left hand, you catch it when you right hand is ontop of your left hand.
GRR i am awful at explaining moves (hense not posting much on poi moves thread!)

It's rather dangerous for anyone nearby. The Rubber Heart Duo vids have some nice staff stuff in that can be applied to poi - go check them out if you haven't already.

Am I wrong? do loads of people do em, I've never seen anyone else do them appart from one dude I met a while a go but he was using glowsticks.
BTB there are loads of variations I'll write them up tomorrow or something, am very tired should be in bed.

I would also just like to add, along the lines of spinning a staff horizontally, that when I let go of my poi I feel silly.
I like to hold my poi, unless I specifically dont want to, at that point in time.

my main tip for throws with fire is to practice in daylight with lit poi. The weight changes as the burn progresses and more fuel is burnt off, changing the dynamics. If you practice with unsoaked poi all the time, it's best to do throws at the end of your burn when starting with fire (it has the added benefit that if you drop them you can just claim you did it on purpose because it's the end
). I found the same is true with hyperloops and poi that soak up a lot of fuel.
I tried using hoops as handles for a while to see if it made it easier, but they just hurt more when i caught em wrong

Hand changes are also pretty tricky. Ive been working on one where Im doing reverse low waves, toss my right poi under my right leg, grab my left poi with my right hand BTB, catch the right poi with my left hand under my left leg. Come out in forward low waves.
Lastly, 1 handed double throws -> 2 handed catch. What I do is Ill go into parallel weave or something, put both poi in my right hand and do a 1 hand BTB wall plane throw out to my left. If the poi didnt tangle when you did this, they will split apart perfectly and you can turn 90 deg left and catch them into parallel reels or some such...

Makes poifect sense to me, these are my favourite throws Especially if it's in the middle of isolated TTN's, it really confuses peeps that haven't seen them before which make me chuckle...tee hee hee They're an excellent way to start some nice contact propellors too

No one has mentioned tangle throws yet which have loads of possibilities. You can throw one poi out of a weave tangle, throw both poi upwards mid weave tangle and they come down seperated (with the right timing/throw direction). You can also release one but keep them in the tangle for some nice whippage related fun
Or butterfly tangles (thrown from infinate butterfloop position) where they stay together no matter how far/high/many flips they do in the air. As for your tangle throws, I was actually gonna make another post about those too but I figured 3 posts in a row is a bit much. When I do tangle throws, I really dont throw em. I do tangles, then release the handle(s) with a little push so the handles just kinda rotate with the heads. I try to keep the tangle as stationary as possible because this generally looks better than if you throw them up in the air.
Ill do a normal wall plane air wrap and let one handle go. Depending on where exactly on the chain you tangled, the poi can do oe of two things here... If you tangled near the handles, the poi usually rotate tangled for a little bit then the one you released should be let loose into a toss to be caught. Or if you tangled closer to the head, the poi will stay tangled for one whole beat and you can re-catch the loose handle and exit the tangle normally.
Tangled double releases or tangled suicides (I like that name ) are really tricky and Ive only successfully done them once or twice. You pretty much have to be dead on all the aspects. The tangle has to be pretty much perfectly in the center, the handles have to be weighted, and you have to toss teh handles just right in order for the tangle to rotate in its place and catch the handles as they come around.

pio swapping opens up way more moves.
My favourite at the moment is forward butterfly, BTH butterfly throw right poi from BTH give left poi to right hand and catch poi with left hand BTB at right hip.
I also like outward low wave, throw right poi under left leg, swap left poi to right hand and catch with left hand under right leg or left hand BTB.
BTB weave throw with turn and catch is sweet as.
I have a jewelry net around to big marbles sewn into my ex cycling jacket poi. I don't think they're necessarily easier, just different (being counter weighted). It just afects the angle at which you release ad I had to relearn a lot.
pio swapping opens up way more moves.
My favourite at the moment is forward butterfly, BTH butterfly throw right poi from BTH give left poi to right hand and catch poi with left hand BTB at right hip.
I also like outward low wave, throw right poi under left leg, swap left poi to right hand and catch with left hand under right leg or left hand BTB.
