After seeing some amazing poi'ists at glastonbury this year, I realised its about time I got myself a pair so here I am!
I'd hope eventually to move on to fire-poi (I'm quite dedicated and hopefully a fast learner). Is it a good idea to buy a set of fire poi and just not light them until I feel able enough to do so, or should I stick with some fabric ones for the time being?

*moves to side as safety for when pounce runs in*

I think it's a good idea to get some fire poi and just play with them unlit for a while so you can get used to the weight and the feel of them.

oh and

Ta for replying, I think that's what I'll do. I'm really excited biggrin
Now, ball chain or wire!
I've got quite long arms too, about 27-28 inches from pit to hand, should I go for the 26 inch or 28 inch length, and does it really matter?
And, does pounce bite? help

If you want to invert between your body and chest then shorter will be needed otherwise just get the longer ones. You can always chop them down a little.

As for ballchain vs cable. IMO cable sucks as it's very inflexible and stops you learning/doing lots of moves whereas ball chain is by far the best chain available for all spinny use. Get stainless steel if you can it's stronger and it'll last longer than coated (ie chrome or zinc) ball chain. It's the most flexible and it's very pretty too smile

A few of my old friends went to carshalton girls. They absolutely hated every minute they spent there biggrin
Wallington hasn't really changed at all in the 17 years I've been alive, funny place.
I bought a pair of fire-poi yesterday. bounce2
I'd love to meet up for a spin but I'm not very good yet. I've just about learned the butterfly, alternate and overhead and I'm bruised to a pulp already.
Whats the deal with using fire poi in public? Are you allowed to use them in public places?

I have yet to meet any trouble spinning fire poi. I usually do it on common's or such.

I know Wilsons. What were your friends names at Carshalton? I might have know them?

I don't mind teaching you some more moves if you want. Also practise does make perfect ubbangel
