I've been lurking around here for a couple months. I suppose that means I should probably post an introductory thingit and all that jazz.

So... Hello, I'm Jesse. I live in Seattle, WA. I picked up poi about three or four months ago on a whim. As of right now, that's the only toy I've got in my bag, but I'm hoping to teach myself double staff and fire whips soonish.

I'm just over halfway through a full-arm tattoo project. I sat for 3 1/2 hours on Sunday afternoon for new ink, and my arm's a bit on the tender side now.

oooh a tat? we need to see pics!!

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

I was looking at that vid Riz put out. I'll probably get it once I figure out what I'm doing with a regular whip...

And you'll just have to wait for tattoo pics until it's all done. Should be about two months from now. It's nothing fancy anyway, just 10 big black bands around my arm.

pink is... um... a wonderful color. on other people. done in moderation. much like hunter orange, it's easy to go overboard, but fun if done right. ubbrollsmile

damn, very nice design on that tat. where'd you get the work done? mine moved into the itchy peeling stage earlier today. lots better than drippy, but I'm leaving little bits of myself all over the apartment now... I'll see if I can dredge up a camera around somewhere and get a picture. (damn peer pressure).

wicks and new chains and grips and videos and stuff arrived in the mail today!! these are my first wicks... now I've got to find some private land to go play with them since Seattle's got this grand city-wide burn ban going on. devil

Bug decided he wanted in the picture too (and it's really damn hard to tell a cute, snuggly, sleepy cat no), so here's a picture of my arm and Bug. All that's left at this point is to fill in the two outlined bands and add another band above all that.

Hey Jess! We're neighbors!! Well as close to neighbors as people in the Northwest that are members of HoP. I'm from Portland. Great tat, what made you decide on that design?

You have a burning ban going? Bad news. We are going gang busters down here.

Ooops, better get the formalities over with ... Welcome to HoP!!!

yay pacific northwest! The way I see it, anything that's close enough to justify a one-day road trip counts as neighbors.

To tell the truth, I don't have the slightest idea why I chose that design. It's purely aesthetic, but for whatever reason the stripes just seemed to fit. And plus, they're all roughly one inch, so I've got a ruler wherever I go now ubblol

This year will be my first at Burning Man. A few friends have managed to absorb me into their camp. Hopefully I'll be able to get the flame throwers on my truck up and running before then...

ROAD TRIP!!!! If you find that you don't have to do anything on a first monday of the month, we have a great Fire and Drum Jam on the First Sunday. We even had an independent film maker film the complete session last Sunday. Suppose to be airing on public access sometime in July.

If you find a good public burn on a weekend I'd be willing to make a road trip myself. Keep me informed.

Congrats on getting into Burning Man, you can have all the fun for me since I won't be going ... ever! Long story.

Really doubt there will be any public burns around here for a while. Have you heard about the new fire regulations Seattle put into effect last month?

Anyway, that Fire and Drum Jam sounds like a lot of fun. I'll have to see about making it down sometime. Probably won't be until fall though. This summer's hella busy for me.

I'm not too sure on the specifics, but it's a $500 fine per person per incident for open flame anywhere on public property in Seattle (parks, beaches, sidewalks, etc). So burns are either in backyards or outside the city. Which means...

ROAD TRIP!!! bounce2

I'd definately like to make it down there to play around sometime since I've only driven through Portland once, never visited.

eek FINES! God I am SOOOOOOO sorry for you Jesse hug. We have some restrictions but nothing to that extent. Maybe you need to move down here to Portland so that you can spin fire a little more freely. wink

Which reminds me, I need to start looking into organizing a beach run. I have absolutely NO idea where to start either.

Apparently the parks department doesn't make any distinction between random kids with bonfires and fire spinners. Put that together with this summer supposedly being one of the worst on record for wildfires, and you get a lot of paranoid laws. From what I understand, a lot of the local fire troupes are working with the fire marshal to get some kind of workaround for the troupes/fire conclave people. So... I'm keeping my fingers crossed and finding friends with yards ubblol

Beach burn! fun stuff. Make sure you post about it bounce2

Will do with the posting. I want to get a local beach, but we might have to do the run down to the coast.

Good luck with finding yards. I'm lucky when it comes to spinning fire here at home. I live on a dead in street with three houses on it. So far my neighbors have come out to watch me spin and no cops have shown up to find out what's going on. I'm want it to stay that way too.

On the roof *giggle* not bloody likely! Maybe a corner of the parking lot if you have a decent size one. I know someone here that lives in an apartment that spins in his parking lot. Management hasn't said a thing.
