hey im fairly new to this stuff, i made my own poi using a small guage neon nylon kite string, with key rings on the ends and glowstix(seeing how im not so stupid that i would learn w fire), it seems like the strings wear out quite often and i have to make new ones all the time. what would be a better media for making these things. btw i dont want to spend $20.00 when im just learning for the poi in the store besides i read that the tails get tagled really easy, i tangle the strings enough as it is i dont need the tails to screw me up more. any way any advice would be appreciated....p.l.u.r.r.xtremravrryan

If EVER you need advice use the search function right below the post new topic button. All this stuff has been discussed many times in the past.(waits for deputy moderator badge grin )But- because you're new I won't hold it against you.Best way to do it is find something soft but strong. I use shoelace, the trick is to wash them a few times so they wear in. This also prevents those nasty finger blisters, but please next time search before you ask. smilePLUR.N8 ------------------Care of other people's approval and you become their prisoner.Live fully, Rave wholly.Fluid are the movements of my strings...

try plaiting your own strings, i reckon thats the way to go, gives you more options over the shape of your string (e.g., flat, round, spiral, straight or tapered) and these can have a bearing on how things swing about. the best thing would be to experiment (if you can be bothered) to find out what you like best.fishing twine is o.k. so is jute twine or cotton string, have a play!!

Props to XTREMRAVR for being the only raver here (that I've seen) to add the second "r" at the end of "plur".For those of you who don't know, the second "r" is for "responsibility".This message brought to you by the letter "E" and supported by the letters "X", "T", and "C". That's a joke, I don't do drugs...never have.Tanzen------------------Ravers don't share glowsticks!
