and I'm as nervous as if I'm walking into a bar full of strangers - so deep breath and here we go...

Just got into poi and i'm pretty crap but it's just such a buzz so gonna keep at it - who says you can't teach an old dog...

a good friend is getting married next august and she's told her mum I'll do fire! no pressure then.

I'm not v good at chat rooms n stuff, they scare me - in fact it's been 3 years since I last went on one but the guy who introduced me to poi is/was a HOPer so i reckon it's worth a try

dya know I was even worried about these fab little things I've seen on people's messages - right over my head i thought - and here they are on the screen - doh!

But now I can't get em on here aargh! 1 step forward, 1 step back.

Hopefully I'll look back on this and laugh in years to come!

Ah finally someone has noticed. It stands for Several Wheeled Obstinate Reactionary Defence.

It's a campaign designed to counter any single-wheeled nutters that might happen to have a strong (and often counter) opinion on every single topic discussed anywhere, ever.

Should that kind of person exist....Which I hope they don't.... But if they did we have a defence force poised ready.

Hello

As some of you know by now, I was made redundant on Friday. 8 3/4 years and they 'can't find a role that suits my skills and experience' B'stards

It wasn't a big surprise, I've been expecting it for a while now and as I've been unhappy in the job all of this year at least it's the best thing for me (payout is quite generous). But man it still hurts, I feel so rejected and useless in my heart even tho my head knows I'm better off out of it and that I've given more than could be expected for most of that time.

So now I have to decide what to do with myself.

It feels like a turning point but I don't know what to turn towards. Part of that is not knowing why I want to turn away from what I currently have. I just know I'm very very miserable with my life and something has to change.

How do I sort out what is truly important to me? I have nothing and no-one in my life to be responsible or care for apart from my cat. How sad is that? I have the freedom to do whatever I want and it's a freedom I just don't want. It gives me too much choice, too many options and means I have to make a decision for myself and I feel so inadequate to that task.

Sorry if I'm bleating, please feel free to ignore this, self-pity is an ugly emotion, it'll pass

Hun I'm in a similar position only I'm stuck in the crappy job and they won't make me redundant ubblol

Before you do anything just sit down and take a deep breath and chant this mantra

"I am a wonderful person that has a lot of people that love and admire me, all of whom will support me on any path I choose to take."

Repeat that over and over until you are sure its stuck there in your head, because every word of it is true.

Then I suggest you make a good things/bad things list.

Sometimes when you do that it clarifies what you really want out of life.

hug hug2
Take good care of you hun and yell if you need anything!

E. You sounded so happy on Friday frown ....What happenend? It's that Trippie Hippie isn't it. spank Bad Ro!

Is there no burning ambitions you've always had but could never achieve because of work? Cos now's the time to give it a go...

It must feel so weird to suddenly be "free" but not want it. I think you must be feeling a bit like Charles Bronsen. Work does institutionalise people - like prison...but, you've got what most of us haven't - a break from the routine.

Use it! Go see people, places and live life a bit with no strings until you've decided on which direction you can take. You will never find the answer you're looking for unless you go and look....

Have some of these from me hug hug hug and i hope you find what you are looking for - but don't find it before November as you have Bath to search through yet!! kiss

Thanx Lovely Ladies - sound advice from both of you.

Friday i was doing my usual trick of putting on the mask and believing my own BS (wasy when you spend 10 hours outside the pub drinking with Ro!), but spent Sat & Sun with my nose in a book avoiding feeling the pain and despair.

Think I'm ready to start the good things/bad things bit - bit scared of what it'll tell me and will definitely need to have that mantra off pat or it will just degenerate into an orgy of self-loathing ( the one thing I seem to excel at). And many many thanx for saying it hug

Today, I've been reading all the threads of stuff that's going on in the next few weeks/months and reckon I'm going to try and get to as many as I can - again a bit scared of it cos suspect I might be using it as escapism so will need to think hard on that...

Interesting choice of words - 'burning desire'... my frind who's wedding I did a performance at in August said I should take the spinning further - so many people there thought I was one of the professionals rather than her friend and they all loved it. I know I'm not good enough to do that, but maybe in a small way I could do something and what I lack in spinning skills maybe I can make up in business/marketing skills...?

I just have to get rid of this knot of fear and unhappiness in my stomach that keeps bubbling up and crippling me from action....

but it's nice to know there are 2 strong, wonderful ladies batting on my side and i hope I'll live up to your expectations

hug kiss hug kiss hug kiss hug kiss

Elaine hun, all we (I think I am right in assuming this for Gayle) want is to see you happy. Whatever you choose to do, if it makes you happy then I'd be happy for you.

I have burning desire right now but am unsure as to how to make it happen. It all comes down to me being an ideas kind of person and not and organised sort of person. I need to sit down and work out sums and stuff and try and get as many grants and freebies I can but..... well I'm flakey and never get around to doing any of it. Thats one of my faults.

How can you loath yourself? I see nothing to loath in you!

Remember that the good/bad list isn't meant to be a way of beating yourself up. It's an exercise in finding out what things make you happiest and which you are best at doing.

Good Luck hug

repeat after me "I am a wonderful person that has a lot of people that love and admire me, all of whom will support me on any path I choose to take."

We are the music makers, We are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers, And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers, On whom the pale moon gleams;
We are the movers and shakers of the world for ever, it seems.

we all love you! hug im afraid i dont have wisdom to give like skully and gayle, and i dont have the experience in life that you 3 do, but what i can say is that ever since i met you i found someone who i strongly respect! always smiling and happy, you were the most welcoming person i met and you are amazing for that because you are such a kind and generous person! so please dont forget us because you are big part of this community, and i feel that you are someone who always looks out for and helps us, which technically then, you do have us to care for smile

besides i need someone like you to stick up for me hehe
