Hello to all HOP'ers. Discovered POI when researching culinary poi. Eventually found HOP and read through several threads and here I am. My name is Eddie and live in South Louisiana. I'm 46yo, married with children. I've been a pharmacist in a hospital for the past 20 years and enjoy rediscovering creative energies in my off time. We've made a set of poi for my 8yo daughter (these are really fast when used by an adult) and a set for my 10yo son (his are longer than they should be but that's how he wants them) and, of course, I have a set as well. Basic racquet balls on the end of knotted string (mine); tennis balls on parachord (daughter's); tennis balls attached to chains (son's).

I enjoy international cuisine and at the moment go between Italian and Asian. Favorite color is blue. Not sure of the wing speed but in S. LA there is a popular bumper sticker that states, 'if it flies it dies' so I think the swallow is in danger no matter how fast the wings. With 5 kids the hobbies have been few over the last 15 or so years but I do still enjoy working with my horses and taking the occasional ride. Recently began making wine and have yet to produce anything enjoyable (have learned to ramp up the alcohol though ). I finished Eat, Pray, Love last night (after starting it about 9 months ago). I hope I never grow up -- enjoy being a knucklehead with my kids -- seems that when they get around 12yo or so that Dad's foolishness is just not as zanny anymore and I start to get the 'I think your crazy' looks. Fortunately, my last two are still young enough to enjoy life's follies. Musically, I enjoy Jackson Browne, Gordon Lightfoot, Daniel Lanois -- storyteller genre. The pants look great -- it's your butt -- you can lose weight but "criticizers" are still ugly. Butter/Pecan. Never had either of the three -- I'll have to hunt some up to see what the fuss is about.

I have enjoyed the little bit I've learned and had a great time watching my 17yo son adamantly determined to conquer the three-beat weave. He was able to achieve it quicker than I and we had a great time. I have the Scales of Poi on order and recognize the importance of structure from my days of playing music. I was actually relieved when I came across that DVD as I know the value of quality repitition. Have a few odds and ends coming with the DVDs and will continue to play around with putting more POI together. Happy Spinning

Eddie

Hello hi! And welcome grin
The Astons are frolicking around the countryside today, so I'm not sure when he will pop his head in, but rest assured, he will smile

As for the fox/squirrel/whatever it is... Where is the Fugee? tongue2 He's never normally this late!

Sounds like you're a great dad smile

I suggest you start with Marmite, avoid the vegemite altogether and well... Nutella is just for the squirrels, so beware... You may be attacked when you open the bottle tongue2 Golden rule with Marmite... less is more smile

Anyways! Hope you have fun on the forum grin
Welcome again smile

Regarding marmite amounts, more is awesome. tongue2

Welcome to HoP! smile

Regarding poi length, it does not really matter too much if they are too long. Is mostly down to personal choice.

'We're all mad here. I'm mad, you're mad." [said the Cat.]
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "Or you wouldn't have come here."
