Posted: Hey everyone, i'm brand new to sock poi and to the forums! I started sock poi.. uhm.. 24 hours ago and now am pretty decent at the Butterfly (and it looks awesome!)
Just wanted to introduce myself, and ask what the next step is in mastering the amazing art of poi. I've learned the butterfly, and can get it going for a pretty solid minute before it hits itself and it stops.. so what's the next trick i should learn?
thanks,

Posted: Check out the tutorials section in here and get some of those going. The turns and stuff like that need not be learned if they're causing you trouble, there are other ways to break down these movements and learn them.
Try just swinging the poi at different points around your body, one at a time of course. Think about timing and planes.
With butterfly its in a 'front wall plane'
| ^ |o| Is with the poi by your sides. Theres more than that, but all complicated movements are simply a combination of the really, really basic concepts. Nail these concepts and soon enough you'll be piecing it all together.

Posted: I would recommend learning the 3 beat weave next, but if you are still having trouble with the butterfly then you should just get used to the feel of the poi and how they move in relation to your body.
