i dislike the term paper "*boy*" and find it insulting, yeah majority of news deliverers are of a young age, but there are some amongst us that arnt. cant news deliverers have a new title, one of these fandangled ones that big corporations come up with for the crappest of jobs? cos paper boy just damn well sucks.

any way, yeah seems kids like to take short cuts. but at the end of the day you will have the last laugh and see what those particular kids grow up in to.
thier kids what can you do?

Kids aren't taught any respect these days...Whoa do I sound like an elderly person!

I believe parents don't teach them to show respect for others, such as appearance and anothers wishes.

Now I'm prolly gonna get it from the HoPpers who are parents defending that they teach their youngens how to treat ppl.

I don't doubt that...It's the parents who don't

I wishcutting through a yard, not following instructions and makeing fun of wrapped hair is the worst thing kids did here. Kids are complety over the top out of control shit bags here. It seriously scares me about the future of this area when these kids grow up.

But then again, adults these days aren't much better. At the lowest level we are rude, and avoid responsibility for our actions, at the highest level we start wars, lie and cheat.

I wish I had been born a few years earlier and could have hit my teens in the 80's. Ok, the fashion was bad , but people really cared about their politics, and there was still some hope for change.

It was a day for screaming at inanimate objects.

What this calls for is a special mix of psychology and extreme violence...

As one of the official oldies on the site (see the Official Home of Poi OLDCALL thread), I'd like ot put in a fresh (or ancient) perspective.

Are you guys aware that Socrates once wrote about the young people of his day?

He went on about how they wore outlandish clothing, spoke very different language and seemed to have no respect for their elders.

Before I add to the rant, I'll give the kids their dues. They are incredible balls of passion, that are gradually getting worn away on all sides by the world, they've have been great friends with me - I used to work with them - they have taken care of me when things beyond their understanding were wrong, in terrifically self sacrifical ways. So the thing to register is that whilst they might be showing you a bad side, their is the potential as well. I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but I really mean it.

The thing however that made me sad about all of my young friends is that they use "Gay" as an insult. Some of them do it innocently, I had one girl tell me that it meant stupid, she didn't know it had any other meaning. I just think of how vulnerable possible closet kids are, or just general public, and how hurtful such a crass comment could be. Turned my blood cold to hear my friends spit the word at each other. "You're so gay", you're the lowest of the low. Shame.

Bring the cane back is what I say!
Make all the little kiddies kneel down and stick books on their outstretched arms for hours!!!
"back in my day, children were seen and not heard!"

ok, ok...
I used to be one of those little s##tbag pikey kids...

Yeah, back in my day as a very annoying little boy we used to use just about everything in a derogatory manner without really even thinking about it. Sounds stupid I know, but we didn't even think or care much about what the words meant/if they could really hurt and used them all the same, the main purpose was to get a rise out of "stuck-up adults" through our outlandishness (aint sayin u are or u aint stuck up, but that was our opinion of all adults- spec the out-of-the-ordinary/interesting ones). No more really. Cheeky, boyish, mean and cheerful.

I sound like a complete p###k when I say that as a little kid, in my group of friends, different/weird=bad, I wasn't exactly "normal" myself but there ya go!

To be perfectly honest, I really wouldn't take anything a kid says to heart- most of us just simply grow the f### up& out of it...

Was it just me & my mates that used to go "eeewwww... girls!!! yukyukyuk!"?
I very much doubt it. Come on guys- try and tell me you never did it!
Liars.

A lot changes as one grows older and somewhat wiser (mmmm... ladies!!! ). I like to think that kids mature and become more open minded as they grow up/experience more, otherwise there no explanation for myself really except for a bizarre freak of nature...

Im only 19 so it wasn't that long ago when I was a kid. At the time that I was a kid I would never dream of doing the things the little bastards are doing now. None of my peers would either. Even the worst kids from this entire area weren't as bad as the bastards that are running around today. Maybe it's only a local problem but other people seem to be saying the same thing from other areas.

I just turned 18, so I still qualify (just) as a kid, and I still agree with you.... most kids just don't seem to have any respect anymore, for people, property, etc.

It doesn't make you an old fart, it makes you irritated by ignorance...

2 sixteen year olds tried to pick a fight with me and 3 of my friends as we left a pub earlier.

Seeing as they were scrawny little runts, I'm not quite sure what they hoped to achieve other than a swift beating if we took their bait.

Even the group of their friends were stood around talking to use saying they didn't know what the hell they were doing.

People like that bewilder me

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

I was out not long ago and saw two bloody kids arsing around, obviously been drinking. Trouble is they didn't know when to stop, and were sozzled. They nearly got done by the police for being drunk and disordely... Then the uglier of the hapless duo proclaimed:

"You can't do this! I am a high class hippy!!"

I realised I was having an out of body experience...These wee jobbies turned out to be me and Trippy.

But I totally agree with the sentiment about the bloody kids though. Scummers.

Its sad but it is true that kids are just a reflection of society. They learn from what they see around them rather than what they are told. For example they may be told "Dont smoke" by someone that may smoke that is a role model so it doesnt make much sense to them. I remember thinking that kids must be getting worse but one day I watched that old black and white movie "Rebel without a Cause" with James Dean in it and I think it was in the 1950's and it shows that things have always been the same. Maybe it is worse I dont know?! If you havnt seen this movie, watch it and you'll see what I mean. All kids really want is someone to actually give a damn about them.

I was walking home with my shopping yesterday and stepped aside to make way for 2 wee kids on their trikes. They were about 4 or 5 years old and v. cute and I smiled at them. They soon came trundling past me again and this time stopped in front of me and were saying 'asshole' and bit@h' to one another. I know they were just trying for a reaction and I had to try not to laugh, but I was shocked that these 2 little angels should come out with such vulgarities. And they were nice little Indian kids as well, so my racist opinion is that little Indian kids are generally more well behaved than snotty little white brats 'I want more chips NOW Mummy' and black children are right divils, cute as hell tho!

Lets just say that if I had behaved as badly as kids today I would have had the sh@t beaten out of me. My parents and their parents believed in the strap. Now thats not the only way to put manners on kids. But GOD, parents have NO idea how to control their kids and shower them with bribes and material goods etc.

It is the parents of today that are fault not the kids. You have to have a license for a dog, but any gobshite can breed. How do we decide who can and cannot have kids? Well, we can't and you can't blame the innocent children, but parenting classes should be mandatory for anyone who is going to have a child.

Now I'm going to get myself into tons of trouble here...

I entertain kids as part of my performing, and the language some of them use is truly disgusting.

BUT...its sooo easy to let them know that that word isn't appropriate, and tell them why and then all theother kids start to naturally 'police' anyone else who uses those words.

They are just learning about the world, its up to us as AHEM (adults) to show them what is acceptable and what isn't.

As to Indian kids being more polite, it must depend on the family. The most polite kids I have ever met are an Seihk family I've got to know quite well.

And the WORST kids I ever met were also from a Seihk family! Foul mouths, yelling and pushing each other around, boasting about how much money they had and generally being absolute little sh*ts.

Anyway, I digress now...

Yes i agree with u all...children/teenagers nowadays arent as polite as they have been in the past, maybe this is due to the evergrowing tred it is to be rude and not respect anyone, not even yourself! As a teenager myself i think there are some good apples in the bunch but not alot, high school is the worst, and i feel sorry for high school teachers!

As i am on a child care course myself i have to go into placement every week, the last placement i was on was at a primary school, i was in year one (5-7year olds) and even these child are lacking in respect..they are rude, there language is terrible, i think these are the people we need to concentrate on!! The next generation!

'S funny how when a person reaches a certain age, the uncrossable generational gap that existed between them and their seniors slowly becomes a stone's throw.

I never suspected phrases like "When I was your age," and "In my day," would ever escape my lips other than in jest. But now I say it about once a week. While children are seemingly more 'adult' these days than we were at their age, you have to remember that they are like sponges. They absorb information by osmosis. Monkey see, monkey do. And when kids observe adults in this day & age, they simply imitate it. Be it friends, neighbors, someone on television or even their parents. People learn how to behave from other people. There's no instinct for social discipline. If we expect kids to act a certain way, we have to set the example, not just the standards.

"When I was a boy," my parents tried to teach me things like right & wrong, what respect meant, what manners were, but I don't think I really learned so much from them, as from people I really respected myself. (I DO respect my parents to a certain point, but they sounded idiotic when they lectured me) I would look to people I respected and thought highly of and ask why? Then I would even emulate them. People like my grandfather, my scoutleaders, Socrates, Indiana Jones even... They taught respect by example. That's what these kids need.

And yeah, some of the little snots just need a boot to the head

I have round white breasts that tend to stand out in moonlight...no this isn't the start of net porn. it's just so you get the picture.
So I'm walking down the street in the evening and step aside to let two...eight year olds, maybe nine year olds, passed. Smile and Nod at them
the brightspark of the two takes this as an invitation to yell at me, do I want to give him a blow job, he asks in loud expressive language.
I answered by asking how old he was and walking off scornfully.
Should have said, "Okay then drop your kacks".

how come you always think of these things afterwards?
