Posted: I've been trying to get my camera to work to show you this but as you can see... It's acting up. Well I was bored messing around blah blah blah. I don't even know if this is concidered a trick but if I had something that lit up the chain then it would look real nice. Tell you the truth I'm not even sure if the move (if it is one) has already been thought of but.. first, put the poi on the floor. Second, spin the chain in a circle above the poi so the chain makes an orb. third, carefully lift. If done right then the orb is still intact. I've been having a hard time keeping the orb stable for more than a couple seconds.
p.s. What's it called when you make a stall and you push towards the poi head and the stall (or still or whatever it's called. Not good with names.) is still in a straight line? Or is it just a still that's just pushed foreward more?

Posted: The orbital chain trick is a variation on an isolation and to date it has no name that I know of so shall we settle for an ORB
BTW you can start the trick in midair if you really want to just start spinning them with a quick flick of the wrist and the orb will form.
Funnily enough I was playing around with orbs this lunch time.
As to your PS it's still a stall.
May my balls of fire set your balls on fire

Posted: yeah the Orb deal is pretty nifty and all, works better with lit chains (thing EL wire or a glow necklace etc).
And yeah you can do them in mid air without starting from the ground, just hang the poi and flick it around like dizzy said. Some things to try: * both poi spinning orbs, butteryfly split time as close together as possible. You can spread them apart and put em back together as long as you keep the split time working, if you have lit/glowing string/chains it looks pretty nifty. * both poi spinning orbs, same direction same time * Orb to horizontal isolation and back. You can mix Orbs and horizontal iso's pretty easily and it's pretty fun to play with the different split time/same time combos here. Try alternating from Orb to horizontal iso and back, but opposite hands doing opposite actions. Soooo left hand spins orb, right hand spins hor-iso. Then switch.

Posted: What are some other Chain based tricks? I've been trying to make a S that's turned 45 degrees clockwise but unless your using a bouncy ball as a head, I don't think it's possible..

Posted: you can spin up the Orb really fast and pull up on the chain causing the orb to flatten out as the poi head comes up. If you can speed up the chain you can keep it there, you can also flatten the Orb by spinning up faster and pushing your hand down at the same time, causing the orb to flatten again but the bottom of the orb never moves vertically.
Get really good at the orbs and you can move them about, think long arm Orbs.
Can also Corkscrew into and out of double Orbs, kinda have to do a semi stall and flick of the wrist to transition.

Posted: My mind boggles as to what would actually be a 'new' trick these days, blucat and simian tend to be among the leaders pushing the boundaries with the insane, i guess there may be something simple that's been overlooked still though
piccy from 2004, lots of people doing such things from way earlier though, just not something people took pictures of usually :
