Figured I'd do the introductory post... I am totally new to poi. I have a friend that spins fire poi and after watching her, I decided I wanted to learn too. I've gotten the LED balls, (I'm a big kid, I like things that light up or glow in the dark or sparkle) and I'm going to make some tennis ball ones as well. So, uh... about me!

My name is Sarah, I'm from the US and I live in the DC Metro area. I'm 25 and I work in the family business, which is car repair. I have a bit of a thing for Star Wars. I used to be a classical voice major, I now dabble in automotive engineering. I like to cross stitch, play guitar, cook, knit, read, etc and so forth. I'm hoping poi will help with my coordination, in addition to being fun. Hmm... what else... I like most colors except orange and yellow, and I listen to most everything except country and r&b.

I guess that's it! So... hi!

It probably doesn't help that I have a bunch of very old songs running around in my head.

eek Your actually trying to figure out moves from text! You are a braver woman than I am. I can't make heads or tails with trying to take the printed word and putting the movement to it. A friend of mine actually made a vid so that I could get a move down.

umm What alternate butterfly are you working on. There are lots of alternate butterflies.

the one featured in the HOP lessons/art of poi dvd (which i have)... i *think* i've almost got it (one handed, at least) but when it goes behind my head the cord hits my ponytail, or grazes my shoulders. i guess i'm confused as to what my hand/wrist is supposed to do once it goes over my shoulder. i'm finding my own interpretation of positions is working a little better for me, rather than what's described on the disc, but this one i just can't seem to work out.

i've only just gotten my own set of poi this week, so i am assuredly a beginner in the most literal sense of the word. redface

i guess we all have to start somewhere, though!

ubblol We all start at the beginning, which can be frustrating at times. I would love to pick up a set of poi and be able to do a new move without a problem. Keep practicing.
