I keep going to fezzies and seeing people twirling these things round and round.

They always look so chilled and happy and make me feel really envious, as I suffer quite a lot of depression and someone said it might be a good way to improve my concentration and well-being.

I've never quite plucked up the courage to have a go for fear of taking someones eye out, but I did manage to find out what there called.

Trouble is, I've never managed to find anywhere outside of festival land where I could buy some of these relaxation tools.

I did once try making some out of string and a couple of old tennis balls, but only succeeded in destroying an old ladies greenhouse.

Has anyone ever heard about the anti-depressive abilities of poi? I hate all anti-depressants and stuff like that and I'm desperate to try out any new complementary therapies that might work.

Anyway. Here's to poi and happiness.

Hiya Jim, welcome to HoP!

My state of mind is not yours to define!

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness."

Hey Jim! Good to see you here! hug2

You broke an old ladies greenhouse?
I wouldnt worry, im sure she didnt miss it for long... ubbangel / devil ubblol

If I was a doctor, I would prescibe poi for depression definatly. My suggestion is get to as many HOP meetings in your area, and meet the happy people who will become your second family ubbrollsmile

and toys means what do you play with? Poi? Staff? Juggling?

Welcome to HOP! biggrin

Well, I'm a complete novice, so don't actually own any toys. Yet! Unfotunately, I asked my GP about Poi on the NHS and he said that there was no scheme in place.

I don't know if the Old Lady missed her greenhouse. I legged it pronto!

I suppose it's part and parcel in this game eh?

What's a HOP meeting anyway? I definitely need more happy people around. I've been on a few other forums and often found people to be very negative about this increasing interest in poi! confused

Hey Jim hug
As a fellow depression sufferer I think that if you ask any HoPper who's met me, they'll tell you I am a happy girl! That's because being with other poi-ers (especially us Hoppers) is so great you can't help but smile!
Poi is great, but when you're alone it can get a bit frustrating when you're learning. Come to some meets and get loads of hugs and you'll feel much better and more positive about life! I do anyway smile
Also, kava kava root and st johns wort are both great for depression, so is exercise in general, getting enough sleep, and eating your fruit and vege!! hug

Hoppers are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.
