I've been hearing this constantly since getting to brooklyn.

In case I had any illusions that it was new york based, it was on the simpsons recently.

Where is it from? I know I've been out of pop culture for awhile, but its really bugging me!

It seems so random....

It used to be an old Burger King catchphrase: "You want it... you got it!" and sung in that annoyiong way advertising sayings are!

Ah-kha!

Interesting. You make it sound old, and I sure wasn't hearing it in cali a couple years ago. Maybe cali has rejected it?

But thats 80% of the mystery solved anyway!

biggrin thank you muchly. (and good to see you're still around at times.)

What's it mean? what's the context in which this catchphrase is used?

Something more than *Oh yes, old chap, it seems you've caught on to the drift of the conversation now...* confused

OK, if I understand this thread at all...

Meaning - Yes
Context:
"Can I have a barrel of monkeys?"
"You got it! (Yes)"

Is that right, or have I totally misunderstood this whole thing?

What a wonderful miracle if only we could look through each other's eyes for an instant.

I use it all the time. And I'm from Michigan.

Of course, I do hear it around here a lot more.

But it's not "You've got it!" It's "You gottit!"

I'm going to have Roy Orbison's 'You Got It' playing in my head all evening now.

I re-a-ly keep forgetting you're from there doc... *shakes head*

Nah, I've really only just noticed it. It is indeed "you", not "you've" but got it is definetly two words with a good seperation between them.

It does sound very american. Hence my first thought it was a new yorkish thing. But Mike's busy proving me wrong. Is it just !californian? (not californian). Altho I'm not from cali, either, but maybe its also an age thing? Maybe its all a fluke? Its obviously not terribly new, I just have no idea why i've never heard it so much before. Maybe i'm only noticing it now because I hear it constantly? (And say it... it works. )
