So yup.. another video:

Ry - Fun with Socks 11/08/2005 (right click 'Save Target As')

Shot on the carpark adventure night with Gabe, Kyle, Dan and Mattie- 3am in the middle of Brissie winter, in the middle of nowhere.

Self-critique:

- not very good quality video

- difficult to see poi because I wanted to frame the shot and neglected the lighting..

- one missed tangle (01:59-02:01)

- one really ugly turn getting out of half a 5 beat waist wrap (01:33-01:36) maybe would have been better doing a whole 5 bt ww, and getting out on a 3 beat..

- two failed coming out ot forward btbs (02:22-02:24) & (02:32-02:34) note to self, if at first I don't succeed, quit.

- not enough flowers

- also not enough right turns to balance the left turns..

- a really boring butterfly, an ugly way to get out of it, and an even uglier execution. (01:00-01:02)

Things I enjoyed:

- my antispin flower looking much better than in round 1 (00:47-00:50)

- got that funny elbow poi move miss psycho_lemming hug gave me the idea for (03:00-03:15)

- one nice buzzsaw to weave regaining centre of balance thing (03:44-03:50)

- couple of other things I didn't mind too much

- seeing my lovely hat. I love my lovely hat. ubblol

Also, can you find:

- the buttercup truck?

Also, bonus points if you can tell me which Shpongle remixed track was I was poi-ing to that was blaring from Kyle's laptop originally. It's not hard wink Really. *Conditions apply- Gabe, Kyle, Dan, Mattie prohibited from entering wink (but you guys are cool so you get bonus points anyway)

Thanks to all who were there (see above- people with bonus points) for making it such a super night hug hug hug hug and a extra big fluffy hug hug and thanks to miss ros (whose spinning I could watch forever and ever and ever..) ubblove

Great stuff Ry- your flow and movement are fun to watch- I liked it:)

The elbow spun stuff was cool- not thought to play with that so thanks for the inspiration. I can see why you like FNF's style- you have fluid varied spinning in the smae vane- I think the thing I like the most is that its a continuous single clip, which shows excellent control and flow:)

Nice one smile

good work dude, i loved the setting, that makes one arty shot - nice! ubblove

One thing that ruined it for me is that your socks didnt glow, they were hard to see att imes - to a spinner they could tell what you were doing, but to a non spinner, they may think you were doing some sort of funky dance wink

All in all dude tiz a great vid, lots of trix in it - i especially liked the elbow one, very nice!

Can i suggest one move for you to learn, about 3min 31 ish (i thinks you poiers call it a 4beat waist wrap) turn with it whilst your arms stay in that awkward place, tiz a great fluffy move that she taught me, i just think you will make it look far better than i do!

Keep it up man biggrin

Oh! Thanks guys for watching it! hug Didn't think people would comment so soon- much appreciated biggrin

Chuts: Thanks muchly! Still have a long way to go to get the fluffy flow I'd like to have though. Excellent control, uhm.. I'll take it with a pinch of salt ubblol biggrin

roarf: Yup- just in front of me was this nice light, but if I stood there, I'd have had to move the camera back (and it was a huge camera.. can't see it in the quality cos I really compressed and shrunk, then recompressed and reshrunk it several times..) and that would have been an adventure in itself..

strugz: Erm.. what poi? I was just doing a funky dance confused ubblol Yeah, I thought the lack of light ruined it too.. Not too stressed though- it was actually more having a play than wanting to record a video to upload.. To think it could all have been solved if I had just repositioned the camera.. biggrin Oh well. On the bright side, because it was dark where I was far, there was light where I did the elbow move near. Aha. wink

re: turning with the waistwrap staying there, I think I know the one you mean- and think I can do it, but probably needs to be brushed up a bit. I suppose it's like doing a butterfly waistwrap (which I still haven't nailed) and turning around and having it go form one hip to the other (just not butterfly)?

pixie: Extra butterfly stickers for you, pixie- cos you mentioned the lovely hat biggrin Around 6 months now.. it's losing it's dramatic impact wink *sigh* And no! No poi for you tongue Your hula, contact balls, fire fingers, fire fans are so wonderful to watch already! Don't want you discouraging the me the only-got-one-toy newbie ubblol

Might I also suggest varying your speed a bit more. It just seems a bit fast and constant.

What Pixie said about the skill levels...

I waved to you when you came close to the camera.

Was disappointed in lack of chocolate and rainbow socks... wink

Was worth using the last of my memory for.

ICoN: Thanks. Still working on it. Yep, was a bit fast, but it was quite possibly partially because track I was poiing to was rather frantic and upbeat, not cool and boppy like the track I put over it. But yes, things I'll take on board for the next video, if there's another one smile.

Gnor: The rainbow socks haven't made an appearance in ages come to think of it. And I still haven't taken the heel out come to think of it. Not to mention those super blue, black, white grey socks I bought in Melbourne haven't made a showing either. Things to look forward to wink Glad you enjoyed it!

Ok - as promised (and before I go back to Uni)

Things I like biggrin

- setting - sweet location. Space-age! Where is it?
- Waistwraps looking really really nice (about 23 secs is sweet and smooth and lovely) biggrin
- Effortless antispin (like 48secs) is looking very tastey.
- A lot of variation in separations and the like makes for mucho interesting watching, and graceful movements. ubbrollsmile
- Over the head turny thing at about 1.08 is a really nice transition.
- between about 2-2.35 you get a lot more play-like which is what I enjoy most (including skipping (somewhat camply wink ) towards the camera....hahaha)
- Elbow Poi!! biggrin
- Again, about 3.40-4.00 is much more dancey. Your body's really involved in the whole movement of the poi and it's super nice smile

Improvements?

- First off, I don't have any sound on my computer so that may change the whole vid. Oops!
- Good location but poor set-up. The quality's fine but with such bright lights and white poi it's hard to see them I'm afraid and doesn't do your spinning justice.
- Slow down. This is my humble opinion cos I think a lot of your moves would look more fluid slower. Either that or introduce a little variation in speeds (something I really need to work on too) hug
- Avoid (if possible) getting rooted to the spot (Waistwrap at 1.30 really stood out) cos it breaks the flow of otherwise smooth movements.

Finally, and I only say this cos I think you have the potential to make it work - try not to get caught up in busting moves. You already (after a stupidly short time) seem to have a really natural grasp of planes and timing etc..... enough to allow you to nail stuff very precisely and nicely. But your spinning really stands out when you get your body more involved. The timing and ease with which you spin can be applied to the way you move your feet and your arms and your shoulders and hips too. When you let go and play, you engage a whole different way of moving that's much free-er (sp?!) and more relaxed and ultimately more enjoyable to watch. You already move so well, but you have the ability to move even better biggrin

Now - can I have the same for my new vid please? wink biggrin
