I dont know the name of this one but it can be found HERE in the staff lessons. Someone told me its called pinwheel?!?

Definitely more diffucult with Poi, so what one has to practice first:

a.) forwards and backwards onehanded weave with each hand

b.) onehanded passing (quite tricky to pass both Poi at the same time)

good luck and have fun

andy

PS: For those who can already do it - there is an antispin variation too, but its even "a little bit more difficult" biggrin

but doesnt this moves have a fixed center of rotation?!? like mid back.. I mean isnt the motion of the poi going around leave the pattern of the pinwheel, if it were turning? not like the poi being a pinwheel but the move itself..

Ola Andy!!!

During our performance at the "lange nacht der museen" our staff players had a (fire)battle against the poi players on a bridge and while we were doing the move you are searching a name for, gerald called it pinwheel and i think as you know gerald is someone who really thinks a lot about technical stuff and names for moves, etc. .....so my vote for pinwheel clap

more new stuff and moves when we see each other...

So Pinwheel it is - ge sei dank smile

@ Stone: The Point of rotation stays the same (above the but) - the Poi rotate around one point that itself is rotating around one fixed point. Same principle as flowers.

Hi PoiBox2, c wot you mean. Your saying the axis would be in the middle of the back. Which is probably a fair point.

But to me it’s like joining two pinwheels together. I’m thinking a pinwheel is like a catherine wheel, it spins round and round on its own axis. When I do pinwheels like that, I go from pinwheel at hip level to another at head hight.

thanks for the clarification.

cheers smile

It's a pinwheel within a pinwheel then - which I think we can just shorten to pinwheel since noone else is naming another poi move pinwheel yet.

still have yet to manage a second pass with this move...

Hey... just to throw another wrench into the machine...

The lovely glowstickers that I met over the weekend call a 'buzzsaw' a 'pinwheel' too.

I'd pick a different name. But then again, I'm often wrong. wink

Well, shall we go?
Yes, let's go.
[They do not move.]

hi vanize, how’s it going?

That would be a pinwheel in a windmill, right wink

Try the above club move, for a “real” pinwheel biggrin hehehe. From a carry, take one hand in front and the other behind, spin in split-time. Change hands, the go high.

A “buzsaw” NYC, do u mean "little wheels" or "bust the nose" or with fire “burn the nose” ?

confused wink

cheers smile

yes.. yes he does..

and I agree with nyc.. the staffers like it.. but that's also because they don't have conflicting terminology..

I'd suggest "fisting the fairy," but that name's already been taken too!

Seriously, though... I think Andy can probably charm the glittering goddess to change her terminology so that a windmill is a windmill and a pinwheel is a pinwheel. ;-)

Now for my next trick... the BTB Seattle-Style Fisting The Fairy Grand Magic with a little Funky Chicken thrown in.

BTW, Andy, while you're in LA, and speaking of buttons on the ends of your handles...

Bearclaw's handles have grommets in them... around the hole where the kevlar loops back through. I always found this annoying on my fingers, so I'd pull the handles out and use them as a single loop. This could give you the button that you're looking for on the end.
