I've just picked up a new meteor. It's a LOT heavier than my poi (4").
Is there any chance of damaging myself to the point of not being able to have children? Or any other permanant damage for that matter?

Cheers

Jack

Happy Birthday Jack.

Ever played cricket? one of those cup things should do just fine.

But is an injury like that such a bad thing? wont ever have to pay for condoms. thats the way i look at it

Unless your going to spin in full riot gear its almost impossible not to injure yourself when learning meteor / 3-section-staff.

... to the point of not being able to have children.... technically its possible to seriously cripple yourself but I've never seen anyone do it.... runs to get camera just in-case.

Avoiding injury with meteors is the same as avoiding injuries with poi: -

1. if your meteors are excessively heavy, then make/buy some lighter ones

2. learn to spin slow (if you're experienced with poi, then learn to do all your moves slow), then, if a move goes wrong, it will inflict less pain/damage

3. Be alert, and, when you feel a move staring to go wrong, pull back your hips/bend over/protect your face- at the same time, relax the tension in the meteors/poi

Many people learnt by just 'going for it'- spinning fast with less emphasis on control. Obviously they get mashed up on multiple occasions; such people often push the view that this is the best, or even the only, way to learn.

It isn't- learning meteors with no nasty incidents is perfectly feasible.

I thought that's what you were supposed to do with meteor, you mean there's tricks you can do asides from smacking yourself in the nuts?

I sometimes wonder if there's a correlation between the user-name an individual chooses, and their approach to spinning. smile
