i was curious does anybody ever even use that, or is it just there as an option to let people see that nobody uses it,

I know Elanna and astar use it quite a bit.
I have seen Quix use it as well.
Gnor has been known to go in....and I go in sometimes...Flynt has used it....I know there are a couple of other who pop in and out.

but it does seeem strange so many users on the site all rather use a forum than get a direct answer through a chat service they would rather wait than get it immediate i mean thats what the chat is for or just random jibbering?

FireBug24 - you're enthusiasm is quite apparent. So many posts in so few days, 2 of them locked and another deleted. Certainly not trying for the whole "under the radar" thing, eh?
You need to remember that most HoPpers live in the Northern Hemisphere, and are usually asleep whilst we're whining about how boring our lives are.
If you'd like to spend more time catching up with HoPpers, do a search for a thread which lists msn details etc. I know there's a list around here somewhere, in Social Chat. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll give you some hints about maximising the search function.

I have lots of friends from across the world on this site - that means I can't be online at the same time as them. That makes the forum much better at keeping in touch with them
Also, if you want to ask a question, give it a bit of time and lots more people will read it if it's posted here rather than in the chatroom. That's another reason why the forum is much busier.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

about 112-18months ago the hop chat room at least in northern hemisphere term was always full in the day

but then it seemed to die again
i popped in a few weeks back, and it was dead with only a few ppl in there,
it seems to go throught fluxes of life and death, relax stay in there and people come and go

ive never spoken to anyone on hte irc chat room as it seemed no one goes on it that often

The main reason why it's underused is that people do just that, then miss each other by minutes. When you post on a board like this you know you're going to have wait several minutes, maybe hours, maybe days for a reply, but with chat you assume it to be instant. And it is, but only if other people are there already!
It was used a lot more previously, but that was because there were quite a few people who lurked in it full time on irc whilst at work/college/university to help get conversations going like me, mech, elanna, flynt, bobo, woody, magnus, astar etc, but times change, now i personally actually have stuff to do during the day!
If you never see other people whilst on, unless you live in a really bizarre time zone then just leave it running in the background for 30 minutes, checking in every few and see what happens.

A lot of people tend to pop in for half a minute, find no response, then leave. Give us poor folks a bit more time to talk to you!
I'm usually connected to the internet 24/7 when I'm at home, so if you give me long enough, I'll come talk. Are you suggesting coconuts migrate?

I kinda... Moved... And then stuff... it was easier to be on longer with IRC, but now the IRC here is weird, but I'm genereally not on the computer as much. But it's getting pretty bad again... Have to talk to someone everynight on MSN
But I miss most people now, because of the changed time zones... 5 hours ahead now... And I dissappear for a week here, and a week there. Travelling and stuff!Those are my excuses, are they valid?

yeah but i get to see you on msn .
i have only ever talked to one person in the chat room!... id sooner use msn for a one to one talk with the people that i want to talk to, its much nice and you can see them too if you have webcams.
Im never around much anyway, i get online for not very long each day, i work bizare shift patterns from 8am to 2am, with a few breaks in between, im normally online most in the early hours so tend to talk to aussies more than any other. apart from 8pm - 11pm gmt when that time is spent talking to serena... if im not on a shift where i have to work those hours like i am tommorrow... that will all change soon enough though.

It's always a hit or miss this time of the day anyway. When I was using it you could usually find someone on line in about an hour or two from now.
