This is just a friendly note to help out our new (within the past six months) hoppers.

When replying to, or begining a topic, please take note that this is an international website with people from all parts of the globe. We are mainly an English speaking Community, however, English may not be somebodies first language. Please take the time to read over your own posts before posting and please refrain from using what is commonly refered to as "MSN Speak" or even "Quick SMS".

What I mean by this is quick references such as 'ur' for you are or you're, skool for school, and etc.

If we can all just take a little time, it will make it easier for all in the long run.

Thanks. hug

i hate reading posts in short, i find it irritating and in bad taste of the board. You would think board users of an international board like hop would be conciderate of other language speakers.
like i would ever post on G dot org in english when its an italian forum. lol

i second the notion for arsn for mod! hehe

Maybe it's sensible to also note here that you don't need to start any threads about Vegetarians, what kind of spin music and coloured flames.
And maybe insist on the search option here. angel2

bloody pain to read, innit.

we is not all from da hood (dat means you nyc, we know yuse a gangsta)

edit/

translation

I agree wth arsn and the other people in this forum that the level of acceptable english being used in the threads is in a rate of slow decline and thus making it more difficult for the international community as a whole to assimilate as a coherent source of information about spinning but also up to and including all the nonsense we post in social.

and nyc is a gangsta.

A perfect example would be me complaining about you double posting wink

but i dont complain. I am a mere part time pedant and only do so for fun.

I agree, I consider it incredably lazy when you have a keyboard with a plethora of keys in front of you but still can't be bothered to type out words like 'you' in full.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

whats the point in 1337 ????????? it hurts my eyes! and its a pain in the arse to type..... if people are going to go to all that effort to type a load of numbers in to a word, why cant they just write in english!, isnt that why we went to school?

We aknowledge the dyslexics amongst us... but there is just more [censored] in posts these days.

can we save the chit chat for PM's too!... i like to read threads not conversations.

Silly old man.

That IS the point of 1337! It's fun seeing how cryptic you can be while still being decypherable.

That's like saying "Why do they leave crossword puzzles blank?" ... so you can figure them out silly!

I agree with the chit chat... but we're in a minority on that one. Some people like to type much randomness more than they like to read quality.

I in no way think that the number 7 resembles in any way, shape or form, the letter t.

You would think hackers (where I believe the original term was coined) would at least know how to read and not confuse numbers and letters.

Leet, short for delete, was yes, originaly created by hackers. (m4d 1337 h4x0rz)

But you also have to take into consideration that this was back in the early 90's im guessing when you either had to have a lot of money or know what the hell you were doing to be online. Leet was created to keep those that had no clue what they where doing online from knowing what the hackers where talking about. but sadly it cought on as a common usage of spelling...

and note only 1337 ninj4's are cool

And it's purely the invention and tool of those under the age of sixteen. Bless their little cotton socks.

i reserve the wright to rite how i damn well please. You think you can shackle me with your dictionary chains? i'm not a BBC presenter, i am a free munky! "Correct" use of language is to achieve the aim that the language was meant to fulfill, not to support convention. To assume that convention is automatically superior, then to complain when new conventions occur, is silly.

Use of creativity in prose stylization is where its at, i reckun.

and txtspk is ace. Why do we need vowels anyway? shrug

continuing my rant...

soapbox

Why the hell not use "u" to mean "you" or "ur" to mean "your" or "you're"?

It's not as if the meaning is unclear of confusing when it's used. Even my dad understands txtspeak, and he's easily baffled by the new and strange.

It seems an obvious contraction of language that will naturally occur. Standardised spelling is such a recent invention anyway, there are so many ineffeciencies that will be cast aside by the people that matter, the speakers of the language.

"You" will end up contracted just like "Cannot", or the various american contractions based on phonetics (armor, color, labor).
