This is really just to guage a reaction.

We (the Falmouth Fire Fellowship wink) were talking the other day about having a big fire party a couple of weeks before Christmas. Brad has an excess of wood in his shop that needs burning, and that's an excuse to have a party. smile

We're thinking probably the weekend of Friday 9th Dec - Sunday 11th Dec. What do people think? Anyone fancy a trek to Cornwall to spin in the cold? We can guarantee lots of paraffin, lots of fresh herbs, and lots of tasty ale. biggrin

I have a feeling the Wickham is shut at this time of year... www.cornwall-online.co.uk is a good website for B&Bs and things though...

Methinks that the hostel sounds like a good idea to have everyone in the same place - working on the theory that hostels usually have more space?... although the prospect of cooked breakfast is rather enticing...

Mags> were you in rems on saturday after, painted green?? i'm sure i could smell paraffin... biggrin

Correct - Wickham isn't open. The lady who answered the phone gave me two other names which sounded like Telford and Carmel Lodge?????? She also gave me the number of the tourist info office to find out where is open. They are on 01326 312300. I'll give them a buzz later and see where is open and i'll stick it on here for your viewing pleasure.

Ok - i've been doing some research and have found some B&B's close to the hostel which i can find available for 10/11 December in price band A-B. They are, in no particular order:

Chelsea House Hotel (www.chelseahousehotel.com)
2 Emslie Road
From about £32

Ivanhoe (www.bedbreakfastcornwall.com)
7 Melvill Road
from £20

Melvill House Hotel (www.mevill-house-hotel.co.uk)
52 Melvill Road
from £20

Tregenna Guest House (www.tregennafalmouth.co.uk)
29 Melvill Road
from £22 i think but the tariff on the website was for 2003/2004 so might be a little more.

I also found The Highcliffe (22 Melvill Road) but they need to be rung for the tariff and the Red House (24 Melvill road) but they need to be e-mailed.

The rest i found don't display availbility for December so i suppose they are out like the Wickham.

Mags> were you in rems on saturday after, painted green?? i'm sure i could smell paraffin... biggrin

ubblol Hehehehe. Yep. That was me. Were you there? I was green, Brad was red. He ended up painting some poor girl red by kissing her loads too! biggrin Never going to Rems again, it's rubbish. smile

Dunc>> Since it's you, I can can save you a couple of quid by letting you and the Lady George stay in the lounge on my futon if you like. I wish i had a mahoosive house so i could let everyone stay, but i'm afraid it's gotta be charity cases only. wink

Either way, B&B or hostel or my front room, it's gonna be a wicked weekend. Brad and I are gonna go scouting party locations this week. (As in somewhere that isn't too exposed, but where we can have a big bonfire.)

I had one, I spanked it up to 5grand so had to get a phat loan to pay it off, which I'm currently paying off. I'd go with Jon logic, either don't get one or only have one with £500 limit for emergencies and not in your wallet!!

indeedy I was there most of the night! I only saw you briefly though and then despite the green paint you managed to disappear in the crowd, which is quite an achievement methinks smile .... I also saw some girl wiping paint or something off her face in the loos! and good luck man, i said i was never going again SO many times, and then I trek all the way from cardiff and spend two nights in there... umm biggrin

You know, what we really need is a rich sponsor who either does have a mahoosive house in falmouth (or flushing probably..) or who can hire out a whole floor of a big hotel........ anyone?? I'm not helping am I?

Your list sounds good bristolpoi, maybe if we can get numbers of how many people are definately needing accommodation, we can start making some enquires as to how many rooms they have available for that weekend and whether we could book out a whole one?

I'm off work tomorrow and thursday christmas shopping. I'll be booking train tickets and stuff so...... I don't really care where I sleep as long as its warm and not flea infested. Are the prices quoted on 2 people sharing a room on the guest houses/ b&b's? If so who wants to share with me?? I don't snore, bite or sleep walk. I have been known to talk a bit in my sleep but if you tell me to shut up I do.

methinks it usually works out around the same price whether you share or not. i've never heard of anyone sleep biting before, but it's reassuring that you don't do it.

I may have my brother in tow, so am not going to commit to any bookings yet, until i know for sure if he's coming... but you could probably reserve a room anyway and I'm sure someone will share with you.

umm.. alas I'm not going to be back in falmouth for butt wiggling... maybe Mags would be so kind as to take on that task? biggrin ubblol

Thought i could manage it, but alas no, it only took about five minutes of rational thought to realise that going over to all you nutters for a weekend will have to wait until spring.

it is wet Stone, but only if you fall in wink

I've had an idea, December is a mo fo cold month so we're gonna need a hall or soemthing for sure unless we have a super-duper fire and be under some kind of cover, trees etc as its probably gonna be raining too, so how about approaching the uni for a hall for a night or two? Where does the Fally Circus Club meet up? If there's somewhere we can spin fire that's nice and then go back to the hall for chillin out, tunes, warmth, partying till dawn and copious amounts of tea we'll have an ace time! biggrin
And as for the church hall, in Sheff they needed the church hall by 10am Sunday morning so we all got up at 9, cleaned our mess (which was minimal) and then left, it was well nice especially as in the park we couldn't sit down cuz of the wetness. Do they need it on Saturday? Cuz it could cure a lot of the accomodation problems for Friday night at least even if it's not used saturday night.

Just my musings smile
