Hello

wavehello

hmmmmmm what to write about me as an intro.....damn its make or break time. First impressions are so vital. Oooooo the pressure.

I'm living in South Wales but originate from Essex (No I don't own White stillettos and No I'm not an Essex girl!). I don't bite, I do pinch, I love chocolate and I one day plan on learning lots of stuff I can't do yet.

Hobbies:- include juggling, balls juggleand clubs , Diablo, poi, doodling, music, hating housework (dust is natures way of showing what the burglars have stolen), making things, pulling things to bits (mainly to see how they work) , embarrassing my nieces and nephews (great fun hobbie that all aunties should take up), hugging trees and talking to bees (watch out for the squirrels......they ARE out to get you!)

Ambitions:- Never to grow up. Learn how to burn things safely ubbangel To that ends learning how to poi without stunning myself, blacking my eye or turning myself into a human torch. Learn to play more than one tune on the guitar. Rule the World. Learn to Surf. Conquer my fear of heights. Travel the world in a van with a man named Bob ("why Bob?" you ask...well why not Bob? I'm sure there are loads of nice men called Bob out there! Simons and Johns need not apply).

Boring stuff:- work in sales to pay the bills.

Have you got a big oscillating fan thingy? If you do, put it going in to the side of the computer (with the side off obviously wink )

With the side off, it wont really do enough cooling for the CPU to stop it from overheating.

At the very least you need to try and get all the dust out of the heatsink.

When I get back, I'll overhaul your computer for you kiss

Night night babe, Im going to sleep now. kiss hug2 ubblove

I have taken the fan off already it was just clipped in place with 2 wire bits. It was the wire bits that had broken the fan because the blades of the fan had caught on on of then amd pulled the fan open so that it couldn't turn any more.

Is it doing harm to my puter me running it now? I have the side off to try and keep it a bit cooler.....

You really shouldn't run the computer without the fan, unless you've checked how hot the CPU is - you might be able to do that in your bios (press del as soon as you turn your computer on and have a look about - Jon, I don't know what bios it is, so I can't help much there....). If it's above 50 then it's too hot. Below will be ok, but lower (about 30) is best.

I ran a CPU at 95 for a week once, and it still worked, but I was lucky. Killing a CPU can cost you about £40, so you don't want to do it! If you have a maplin near you, then they sell cheep fans that will do the job, for no more than £10 - I think I've got one for £6 from them before. It's really worth:

a) checking the heat before you use it any more - you might be burning it up.

b) getting some thermal transfer compound - I have some, so I'll send it to you with a card from Jo smile

c) Getting a new heatsink and fan IF it's running above 40 or 50 after the compound is on.

d) the problem could be to do with a failing power supply and nothing to do with the CPU. I have 2 spare so I'll give you one if the above doesn't fix anything.

erm, is that any help?

I'm a complete computer fool Sym. I have no idea what does what..... It seems to be ok today but I have rigged the heat sink fan back up without the original clips that were in the way. It's a bit noisy but the fan is running.

I think what it really needs is someone that knows what they are doing sorting it out. If I fiddle I'll probably only break something. I'll just keep it ticking over until Jon comes home and he can kick it's arse until it works biggrin

I just put a thermometer inside the case with the side on to see how hot it is in there.... bearing in mind I'm running it with the side off most of the time so it will be cooler than that. I'll let you know what it says... all the bios temp reading gives me the chance to press something I shouldn't and kill it.

Trust me I really am that bad with computers... just ask Jon ubblol

Thanks for the advice hug

[edit] it says about 24C... so thats ok, yes?

ditto Vixen... what Gayle said... unless you need cheaper paints which you can get from Snazaroo... but to be honest the quality of them is not as good as Grimas.

If you are using them in a cold place.. ie not for clubbing etc you should be ok with the snazaroo.
