so i reckon this thread will hold a record of the new things and stuff im learning along the way, all input of any kind is welcome...

*edit*

*where was I? oh yeah here, The elbow, arm, arm elbow roll*

Its simple really, I cant do it.

I've seen some real nice clips of this move (Thankyou MCP/Glass) but I still seem to be missing somthing fundamental.

So I take the staff in my right hand, bring it accross my body under my extended left elbow and roll. extend left arm and let staff roll onto right arm. Bring staff back towards body on right arm

Now here is the problem, it just stops working there, I think i might be missing an extra beat/spin or something. Or it it could be the position of my wrist. Dont ask me what my wrist is doin, it goes all wonky in a natural reaction to the feeling of the staff falling off when i start bending my right arm on the way back in,

Any ideas?

If I can get this I'll move onto to trying to combine it with a shoulder rool and a turn to get it across my back and other shoulder.

I'm hoping to put up a clip soon, not of what i cant do but of what I can, after six months it's be cool to get some HOP feedback.

bambam does a lovely cartwheel move where she places the staff on hte back of her neck while doing the cartwheel (you have to look the opposite direction to which you front is facing (or just look at the ground if you have a pony tail)) tis a most pretty move

that sound nice. I dont really understand what you mean yet though, What holds the staff up if you dont got a pony tail (i have no hair at all...).

Do you pinch it? Use your chin?

if you have no pony tail u have to arch your head back heaps so when your standing up straight ud look up to the sky as much as u can expect u do that during the cartwheel

wow, more and more contact folk are coming of the woodwork these days

many thanks to declan (will you register already) for showing me how to do these two lovely moves:

horizontal SNES. :bouncingallovertheplacesmiley:

Layouts: cant do it but now i know where to go. These are lovely.

Dec, its incredbile that you've only been spinning three months. Cleanest hand/elbow rolls i have seen. smile

Finally got a quarter decent:

Jesus: Enter under left arm pit in wheel plane turn in opposite direction to spin. Shoulder, Chest, Shoulder, Back, Shoulder etc Is this a jesus? Its hard and I find I have to start it a little out of plane to get it to roll on my chest. Whats a Jesus 900? Lots of turns im guessing. :dizzyness:

Trying for a halo-turn body 180-neck roll -turn again. The moves works ok whenit works but try as i might planage is non-existant. is it better to travel when turning. as in pivot 180 on one foot say, so your body moves in the same direction the staff is spinning (if the staff is traveling you have to keep your bod under it right?). Or is it better to try and turn under it? Seem like spinning faster helps the latter.

DOUBLES!!!!!

I finally got my pook sticks on saturday. Yay!!!! I love em. Long doubles are sooo much fun.

Played with them all night on saturday raising money for the red cross. Between about 25 five of us we raised €1530 in four hours. Most staffers i've ever seen in the one place. biggrin

Questions

Whats quarter time? Staff wise? Makes sense in poi but surley with staff they are either parrallell or split? (or any unamed angle in between).

Whats a carry? I'm sure this is something i do butive really no idea what this term means.

And Why cant i do reverse fishtails!!!! I can do half ones in both direction on both hands and so can get around 360 by changin hands and letting the staff flip over into the other plane. No joy though.

mcp

TTN with doubles? Please miss, some more.

Faberge does a lovely TTN, BTH mid butterfly. Its bootiful.

thread the needle. I don't know why it's called this, as it's not like your have 359 degrees to get one poi past the other or anything. And it's not like it's hard to spin a poi in front of you continously, like it's hard with a stick.

Erm, will elaborate on this rant later...

I dunnoe?

Anyway, two sticks, butterfly, in front of you. You push em through each other, but since they are roating continously in the wall plane you have to do either: hand wraps, knoxious's little forearm caning move / tiny throws in order to keep em in wall plane.

Other wise you can start on mo-seph uber hard arm wrap hand wrap TTN. Which I will leave him to explain.

Cheers Ado_p. I might have shown you the Horizontal snes but I cant do it properly. The last part eludes me. how do I get it back to a point where I can catch it.

have you seen mcp's matrix tutorial. your 60% of the way there with the H SNES. More lean!!

also when you are doing the second half of the steve how does your hand move to bring the staf up your arm?

thats it really, let the staff wrap your neck, drop your shoulder and let the staf roll dowf a bit the lift your arm up...

if the stick is on the right path it should do the work for you.

i should clarify that it doesnt really work for me smile its getting there though

new stuff

wierd figure of eight

one of the cork circus guys showed me this.

so in a normal forward fig of 8... wheel plane... thumb leading...

start a low forward double spin... pinky leading

now instead of completing the rotation and changing to thumb leading again

do a one beat... pinky leading...

now your back at the start of the low double spin

off ya go again

grab another stick (coz its more fun with two)

variate (works with the other double spins too)

continue to infinity

happy daze

Fish tail throw

Fish tail catch

a little 180 throw is all for now

but i like it smile

How tight do ya'll do your fishtail planes, i got them pretty tight today, maybe a foot between planes but it doesnt feel smooth. bit more flow and a little less plane feels nicer but i cant see so i dunno what looks nicer. maybe both look good.

got a halo from a reverse fishtail too. well the first half of a reverse fishtail. its clunky and ugly right now though. and i cant get it into a forward fishtail exit just yet. feels like its stepping rather than spinning/rolling.

and a prayer- elbow wrists elbow. nice one for the demonstration feartine... i like this move muchly

I like it when people use my names. When are you coming up ado-p?

Will you be coming round the mountain when you come?

Angel rolls are the best. You want to do reverse fishtail, angel, forwards fishtail, just like ben-ja-men does in his fishy vid. These are the best, and look uber magical. I can't think of several moves better than this. Unless you could do fishtail, vertical matrix, fishtail.

Hmmm, I seem to have joined the darkside, sorry fishside.

irelish aluminium?

Or maybe a leprechaun to give to ben so he can fend off the dropbears. I would have given him a live haggis, but they're so rare nowadays.

Is red lemonade like tizer? Or is it cooler? Oh alright then.

Angel rolls are halo rolls. Just with straight arms and starting out of reverse fishtails. biggrin

And yes, I will be present on the 20th. biggrin hug

Just a quick reality check here!! I did them yes, brilliant but 99% of the time as stickman says it swings round and hits my square in the face.

I also am not entirely sure how i did it so I cant reproduce it. Iwill not give up though.

Was messing at lunch and poked myself in the eye!!

Just want to say also that without the inspiration of ado_p and guidance of mcp I would never have been able to do any of this so thanks people!
