so i reckon this thread will hold a record of the new things and stuff im learning along the way, all input of any kind is welcome...

*edit*

*where was I? oh yeah here, The elbow, arm, arm elbow roll*

Its simple really, I cant do it.

I've seen some real nice clips of this move (Thankyou MCP/Glass) but I still seem to be missing somthing fundamental.

So I take the staff in my right hand, bring it accross my body under my extended left elbow and roll. extend left arm and let staff roll onto right arm. Bring staff back towards body on right arm

Now here is the problem, it just stops working there, I think i might be missing an extra beat/spin or something. Or it it could be the position of my wrist. Dont ask me what my wrist is doin, it goes all wonky in a natural reaction to the feeling of the staff falling off when i start bending my right arm on the way back in,

Any ideas?

If I can get this I'll move onto to trying to combine it with a shoulder rool and a turn to get it across my back and other shoulder.

I'm hoping to put up a clip soon, not of what i cant do but of what I can, after six months it's be cool to get some HOP feedback.

Love is the law.

Have solder, not convinced it'll stick to ali, but you can try... (and it's got flux built in smile )
(when welding Al, you use a MIG welder cos the oxide is super stable. Or something... wink )

Why has no one learnt anything new yet ???

a fun move to play with (although it's probably not new, can't remember wink ):

Cross -> steve -> cross

Spinning a horizontal cross, above your head; when you would normally swap hands, insead push your hand upwards, and bring the bottom staff up to vertical. This leaves the top stick free to steve down your arm, round your neck and up towards the other hand. While it's doing this, bring the bottom staff down, pass behind your back, and have it in your other hand ready for the top staff to roll down onto.

Hint: practise the staff pass lots of times so it's automatic when you're thinking about the one rolling round your back

Extra credit: really exaggerated punching the air motions, with the other hand on hip and a rockstar pose with the legs.

it's all in wallplane, no turning. Plus it's the poi definition of anti-spin.

After that, it's too simple to explain.

It's a very silly move...

poi, arms move in different rotation to rotation of poi. staff style is body turns in opposite direction to staff.

They're not really poi and staff anti-spin. But most staff antispin moves are the latter, and most poi the former. Hence.

kinda the same hand movements as a poi weave ( ok i hate to admit that i picked up a pair of poi so i could learn this :P ) but with one hand perpendicular to the other, and the staffs/staves which should that be ? intertwine with eachother but keep the cross shape and basically move in a figure of 8

i think i see what you mean

are you doing them from split time figure of eights? where one hand does a reverse figure of eight over a forwards figure of eight?

or in follow time (same direction i think, wheres captain terminology?) where one hand goes over or under the other in a same direction figure of eight? this really feels like they are following each other to me becaue they stay parralel.

is it continious? i can sort of do the first one continious, i cant get it clean and i think there is a few different ways to do it. i go over then under. i've seen it nicer but i cant figure out how to do it. have you looked at the staff vid in oli's vid thread. theres a ninja doing some weavy thing that looks great.. confused

the second feels like a two beat and i can only do it with short sticks coz i dont gots enough planes it seems. either that or the short stick is passing somewhere that the long one wont. its not continious but is a nice turn.

i can do what i do continusly, i think it may be the first thing you described, wrists stay locked togeather, and left follows the righ hands movement through the fig. 8 but then it might be the other one :S i'll show you in april biggrin
