well hello there! im new and thus, an introduction!!!

so im chavid. my real name is david but everyone calls me chavid, boring story so i won't tell it.

i just started poi a couple days ago. i saw someone at a medieval faire last weekend doing it and it was the last little thing that pushed me towards trying it.

i dont have any real poi. i have no money for that. so i put some socks in ziplock bags and tied shoe strings to them, there I go.

i seem to be picking it up quickly. i can already do a butterfly, alternate butterfly, over the head butterfly, and i can KINDA do a weave. although, im still having trouble doing alternate rotations, so my weave is kinda bad.

hopefully i will get some real poi soon. that will be a nice thing.

Hi! welcome

Yay for more pacific nw people!

Best thing you can do for cheap poi is pick up a couple tennis balls (free if you're quick at a tennis court eek ) and stuff them down into the longest pair of socks you own.

Do you have a yard?

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Welcome to HoP Chavid! I'm going to have to pull out my map to find out where Poulsbo is.

Jesse - you're going to find that yard yet, aren't you?

Damn skippy I'm going to find a yard lolsign

Reason I asked is 'cause of the new fire regulations in Seattle, we're restricted to private property for fire spinning. So I've been trying to collect a list of yards I could possibly exploit ubbangel

dude, it would be awesome if you could come to my yard and do it. but you would have to teach me some stuff too. for i am a lowly beginner and no not much of the poi skills. lol. yeah, my yard is up for it some time as long as you show me stuff and don't do any damage

Well, there's a few of us (read as two or three couples) who get together most Saturdays in Volunteer Park. I'm sure if you were to show up we could probably teach you something. And perhaps arrange yard visits biggrin

Things are going to be a bit crazy this month with a couple weddings and people going out of town, but they should settle back down in early July.

Howzit Chavid!

Keep spinning man! I first started poi with some tennis balls and chain from a hardware store (dirt cheap). Drilled holes through the tennis balls and attached them to the chains with wire. Only thing is you need a decent finger loop of some kind - chain doesn't work - learnt that the hard way!

Do you have a small circus in your town? A lot of circuses around RSA use poi and so when I first started I actually managed to get some pointers off circus people ubbrollsmile

Keep it up!

It's on Captial Hill. Go up broadway and take a right on Prospect. You can't miss it.

Things are really crazy this month though, so I don't think anybody will be up there until July.

There's TONS of circus/fire people in and around Seattle. Give me a bit and I'll see if I can dig up some links for ya.
