My introduction: I actually became a Member last week or so. However I bought and have been practicing My poi since the start of the year. I got interested in Fire Breathing two years ago out of the blue.. I was sitting on my couch and just decided that I wanted to know more about it, found a great book and read that . Then last year while on Vacation I was on the beach and these teens started spinning poi. I had no idea what they were doing I just thought it was amazing. When they were done I asked about what they were doing and they woudn't tell Me.. I guess they didn't want Me to share in on their secret. It took me about 1 hour to find it on google. I started with fire on a chain and I kept getting closer and closer until I found home of POI. and here I am ......

I am in New England. I really want to perfect My poi. for some reason I have a very hard practice today I mean I really beat Myself up. MY SKINS are black. I for some reason can't get the
alternating reels .

Time Goddessda, it will take time. Have you done a search yet for people in your area? Maybe you can find some people to spin with, it's always better with someone than by yourself. Maybe they will see what you are doing wrong. But then keep practicing, sooner or later you will stop hitting yourself.

yes the bruises will go eventually and you'll never*ahem* rarely hit yourself. But it's like initiation or something, you gotta have the bruises to be accepted into the club!
Those spinners you met didn't sound like very nice poiple, don't worry most of us are very friendly and sharing

Dont worry about the bruises...we all got them when we first started... well i did anyway. Gave myself a nice black eye once.

I usually practice for one hour everyday with an mp3 player. I dont' remember what move I was doing but I hit Myself so hard in the eye. I saw stars dropped the poi. I gave Myself a black eye.. I stopped practice and drove home with one eye closed... LOL

Hi Goddessda!
After I had only been spinning for about 3 months I thought I pretty hot stuff - so at this party I started fooling around with someone's LED poi. They had warned me not me but I was sure I could handle it seeing that I was pretty good with flag poi. Needless to say I tangled and hit myself on the back of the head in front of a crowd. Had a bruised ego along with a bruised skull after that.
