Recently I experienced a "Fire Twirler" and it was the sexiest thing I have ever seen.... and I would LOVE to learn how to twirl...and was wondering what the beginning steps are.

Any advise would be really appreciated.

Like, What to buy? That I won't kill myself learning with.... and are video lessons worth it? or should I find someone in my area to help me learn??

Thanks for any response. I appreciate some guidance.

Be as happy as me....

Always listen to Patricks words of wisdom.

Poi is very fun but so is staff. Buy a broomstick maybe to practice staff and stuff balls in a pair of socks and voila a set of poi
HOP has lessons in poi and staff in living colour and a whole discussion board with a search button.....

Where do you get "Sock Poi"??? Do you make them?? and if you make them, how do you hold them since most poi have a loop at the end don't they???

Thanks for your help... I am dying to get started...just need to figure out how to get my POI.... thanks.

You can make sock poi by getting a pair of long socks, putting either a tennis ball in the end, or a small bag of rice, or a juggling ball. Then voila! a set of sock poi biggrin

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Hey, welcome to the board.... as u can see these guys are really helpful... which is why I joined biggrin

But yeah, as they said... Practise, it is a wonderful thing, and to learn how to make your own Poi, do a search for Make your own... useful info in there.

And to make your own staff, as someone else said Broom handle, but u can place hessian on the end and wrap it in wire to hold it on... but dont light it or else the ends will fly off, which prolly isnt a good thing... I havent done it yet, but I have been told the results are bad.

Had more to say, but I cant remember, so I am gonna see you around.

Heya misshappypants!

Seems that most the good advice has already been dished out but what I can add is that if you want to learn poi - try out the sock poi. There's no point in buying a better poi set until you've decided whether it's something that you really want to do or not. When I eventually seriously got into poi I bought the ultimate performance poi off the HOP website as my first poi set - really great for beginners. bounce2
