You guys are twisted. And not in a good way. ubblol

Ok. I started writing this on Monday, but the PC crashed at Tamsyn's, so I lost it all. Buggery. Oh well. Here is the abbreviated version:

Friday 1st July 2005

Woke up about midday and wandered up to the new house to pay my first months rent and get the keys. Got a pasty from Spar (now conveniently 50 metres away from my front door) and walked back to Melvill Cresc. Lay about and watched Spaced for a bit then carried my futon and armchair up to the new place. The hallway was already filling up with boxes and black bin bags as my other 5 house mates (and the 2 "other halves") moved all their stuff in.

About 5ish Brad came down with the car and helped me move everything. We were done by about 10ish. He's a good lad. biggrin

We went out to Porthtowan in the evening and had a burn by the Blue Bar. Brad was a bit tired by this point, so we didn't stay long.

Saturday 2nd July

Spent the day unpacking, and trying desperately to fit everything in to my shoe box sized room. I still haven't managed it and it's almost a week later as I write this. I need shelves...

In the evening we went to the Moor to spin. Had a good long burn, and had several crowds of people watch us. Whilst freestyling with my staff I managed to give myself a nice fat 3 inch burn on my left shoulder. Only 2nd degree, but it canes. Met a cool South African guy called DiDi who spins fire. I recommended he get on HoP. Who knows, maybe he's here already. smile

Went home, washed carefully in the shower, and went to bed.

Sunday 3rd July

Got up and lounged about. We have Sky digital tv in our new house, and whilst I'm not the biggest fan of the idiot box, it's nice to have BBC Parliament. And the Poker channel. biggrin ubblol

Went to the beach in the afternoon. My burn was healing ok, but like a muppet I span staff without a top on (it was a nice day, alright?) and the rubber of my grip neatly tore the top of the burn off the very first time I rolled it across my shoulders. Ow. Luckily the nice people at the RNLI gave me a bandage to put on it, but I wasn't really feeling like spinning much after that, so i went home and lazed about for the rest of the day.

Hey Magnus, like the sad-goth-child HoP nickname?

Hehe, tis Joss :-)

God home is boring, just got an email from Kelly all about our next gig tho, now all excited and furiously sketching crap design after crap design for body paint.

TBH, feel kind of stalker-ish reading all this. So weird to read about things I was there for, but in the past-tense from another POV. Hmm.

Any more wood stuff need organising?

Cu on the 15th.

Joss, it's not a sad goth child nickname, it's your name. Live with it. biggrin

Yes, it's true, i now live in a house with a proper colour scheme (nicotine white) fit for a student dwelling. It's about half way between Penmere station and Fal Town station, but to be honest , Will and others, you don't wanna be going there on Thursday, as I won't be there. Although it will take a while, I will now explain why:

Monday 4th July

Went to Lanson to look after the kids. Tamsyn was there, but working during the days, and as Izzy was in school, i spent my days hanging out with Lady Rhe. Went to the castle in the evening for a burn with my friends Ed and Emily (mysticred on HoP) and drank some beer.

Tuesday 5th July

More of the same. Watched some bad kids tv and played some games with Rhe. Stayed in in the evening and played on the PC while Tamsyn sat in her room playing PS2. smile

Wednesday 6th July

Looked after Rhe, got Iz from school then got a lift back to the train with Tamsyn. Went to Jake's with Rich, Sam, Sam's friend Kate and Yanni. It was open mic, so I played an Elliott Smith song, (A Distorted Reality Is Now A Necessity To Be Free), then a Frankie Goes to Hollywood cover and the obligatory rendition of I Will Survive. Free pint ahoy! Went home and watched Poker Channel til bedtime.

Thursday 7th July

Can't remember. Watched the news a lot. Rang people in London. Didn't do much in the afternoon. Probably involved a beach.

Friday 8th July

Blah blah. Beach. In the evening, we'd been asked by the new manager of the Gyllyngvase Beach Cafe to come and spin for a wedding reception they were holding. So we did. In addition to nearly slicing the end of my little toe off with the end of my stick, we put on a pretty good show, and got paid in 1 case (24 bottles) of Corona, and two limes. Went home and drank beer. smile

Saturday 9th July

Got up, went into town and bought paraffin. Trago Mills, the store with the cheapest fuel (£2.30 for 4 litres) doesn't stock it over the summer, so I had pay about a quid a litre! Savagery.

Joss, Brad and I left the house about 7ish, heading for the Eden Project. A charity evening was being held (a posh one, £1000 per ticket!) for a young girl who'd had to have both her legs amputated. She had asked us (through Brad) to come and perform, but unfortunately hadn't cleared it properly with the Eden site management. Consequently we were placed waaaay out of the way of the audience, and basically, performed for the benefit of one of the Eden ladies, who was sat with us guarding the fire extinguisher. We got fully bodypainted too, all three of us, in a disabled toilet. smile All fun really.

Feeling a little anti-climactic, we got back in the car and rolled a joint. Got a phone call from our friend Kelly asking if we'd go and spin at a wedding reception she'd been waitressing for near Perranporth. We sped west, and got to the reception (in a field behind a pub called the Smuggler's Den) just as the fireworks display was ending. We pretty much got out of the car burning, and proceeded to spin for about 2 and a half hours. The lady who was hosting the party booked us for a paid gig the following friday, and paid us for our endeavours with a case of (you guessed it) Corona. And two limes. biggrin

As we were leaving the reception, having spun fire outside, and flags and poi inside, along with the obligatory juggling/cj routines, some drunk guy said,

"Are you guys going to the party in Newquay?"

"Which party?" said we...

We got to the party (on Pentire beach, in Newquay) about half 1, and set up to start burning. We were still fully painted up, and we put on a show for the waiting crowd while the DJ got set up. The party was in a little quarry-like basin on a point overlooking the beach, a wide expanse of perfectly smooth white sand. We met some of the Newquay spinners, including a girl (I think her name was Amy - not too sure) who gives poi lessons on Fistral beach.

About 4ish the sun was coming up, and as we still had to face the drive back to Fal, we departed, leaving the happy crowd merrily bopping away.

Sunday 10th July

Got home, Brad passed out almost straight away. Joss and I watched the mornings news and almost as soon as the weatherman had said, at 7am, "The temperature right now is 18 degrees, set to rise to nearly 30 by 10am", we were heading for a deserted Gylly beach. Who needs sleep anyway?

Jumped into the sub-zero waters to shift the last bits of bodypaint, then collapsed in a heap and chain smoked spliffs. Joss left about 11ish, he had to get a train home for the week, and I lazed about some more til about 1ish, when I went up to sit on the balcony of the beach cafe to drink beer. After repeated dunks in the slightly-warmer sea to keep myself awake, I finally went home about 5 and passed out.

More in a minute, this post is a bit long...

Monday 11th July

Got up earlyish and lay about watching TV til it was time to get the train to Lanson for kid-duty. Read Private Eye on the way up, and chortled to myself. Fed the kids and put them to bed, then went to castle with my friend Thom, who I hadn't seen in a good few months. Drank a couple of beers and smoked some, then went back to Tamsyn's and slept.

Tuesday 12th July

Spent the day playing Buckaroo with Rhe, then in the evening went down to the castle with Ed and Emily and span Ed's glo poi around. They will both be at Fal4, so keep your eyes peeled. smile About midnight I returned to Tamsyn's, played on the computer for a bit and went to bed.

Wednesday 13th July

Got up, played with Rhe, picked Izzy up, drove back to the station and returned to Fal. Was thinking about going to Jakes to play my new song, but instead went down to The Shed (a bar) for the birthday of one of Brad's friends, Miranda. Span some fire outside there, then went home and vegged.

Thursday 14th July

Woke up, instantly bored. Headed for the beach and lazed. Got mobbed by a gang of grommets, and distracted them by teaching them some contact moves with the staff and then letting them get on with it while I lay about and read Empire. Went home about 6ish and had a cup of tea. Brad came over, all ashen faced. I passed him a J, and asked him what was wrong. Right. Prepare yourselves. Get this:

We have been asked to put together a crew of 5-6 fire performers to do 4 nights a week (Mon - Thurs) at the Eden Project . For the next 8 weeks! For £50 a night!

Once I'd come round, we started ringing people to get a team together. A lot of people are away for the summer (which baffles me - why live in a place like Falmouth, then leave in Summer, the only time it's really nice?) but we managed to get a group of 5.

My friend Emma lent me a dvd of Sin City, so I was up half the night watching that. What an amazing film!

Friday 15th July

Woke up around 1ish and flopped about a bit. Had a nice long chat to Mojo on the phone. It's funny in a way, I know she loves me very much, and she doesn't doubt my love for her, but she just doesn't trust me. Must be the eyebrows. I think it'll be ok in time, but maybe I'm just a hopeless optimist. ubblol

Rico came over, and we wandered in to town and got a fry up. Mighty tasty it was too. Then he went to the shops, and I went to get my hair cut, buy paraffin, and go home to start getting ready for the evening's gig. Brad and Joss came over and we drove to Perranporth to meet Kelly and get painted.

The gig was a joint 50th birthday party at the same place as the week before, the Smuggler's Den. We loitered around and ate burgers and corn on the cob until the sun went down, then started burning. It was a good enough show, Brad did some breathing towards the end, and the kids certainly loved it. We got paid £200 which was split between us according to who'd bought what, and Brad got extra for breathing. Then we headed back to mine and all but passed out, Joss and I watched Sin City (I could watch it again and again and again...ubblol) and I finally got to sleep about 5am.

Saturday 16th July

Woke up about 1pm with 29 missed calls from Tamsyn. Quickly showered and pegged it to the station to get the train to Bodmin. My friend Dave (the circus society guy) was on the train, and we chatted and shot the breeze for the length of the journey. Tamsyn, Dean and the girls picked me up at Bodders, and we got back here in time for me to feed the girls, put Rhe to bed and then write this humungous missive. biggrin

There you are, all up to date and proper, and hopefully now you see why I won't be at Maenporth until late on Thursday night. Although, I will be fully bodypainted. If that's any consolation. biggrin

Love to all

50 quid per person per night, or 50 quid for the whole team? 10 quid a head doesn't sound like much of a living.

Technically, I think you can claim you're a professional as soon as someone pays you once wink but I'd say a four-night-a-week gig is a more convincing reason.

Have you got yourselves public liability insurance?

We don't have public liability insurance yet, as for some reason all the places we've consulted run their insurance year from September to August. Bit wierd, but there you are. Consequently the Eden gigs will be done under a group insurance thing.

Sunday 17th 2005

Woke up about midday. Stumbled about in the house and garden with the kids , Tamsyn and Dean. Doubt we'll do much today, probably just sit in the garden. Today is my last calm day for a few weeks, so i'm gonna make the most of it.

Ho hum. What a nice day. I hope it's sunny wherever you are.
