Thursday 9th June

Woke up about 11am. I was up til about 4am last night writing my propaganda essay. Now I have exactly 24 hours to write a 6000 word case study, and I really don't think I have enough material. Am panicking, just slightly. smile

And now, time for a rant. Why are the Royal Mail so f*cking crap? A few weeks ago I ordered some new fire poi from Mr Malcolm, and paid a reasonable sum for the delivery of said poi. On arrival in this country, however, Royal Mail decided to charge me £15 customs charge for the privelige, and THEN they didn't even deliver the b*stard to my house! I had to get a taxi to the industrial estate where the sorting office is (as it's off the bus route) in order to pay the exorbitant charge. My new poi, including postage, customs charge and taxi have now cost me £90. To be fair though, I'm not too fussed. 3.5" Monkey fists on heavy ball chain with leather - yes, leather - handles! Woo hoo!

I have the phattest poi in the world. But what a feckin ball ache!

Right, I'm off to work hell. Have fun. Typically of a day when I have to stay inside a lot, it's absolutely beautiful outside, the sky is the colour of a robins egg and most of the people on the street seem to be heading for the beach. Aaaaargh.

Mags,

The same happened to me recently with the last lot of stuff i bought. I paid £44 for stuff from HOP and the post office wouldn't deliver it and i had to pay £11 on top. A quarter of the cost of what i bought. I think i would have been more pished off if i had to go to the sorting office by taxi. man that sucks.

So, lots of these for you hughughughughughug

See, it becomes a problem when you start adding it all up. I go through a set of poi roughly every ten months. (The last ones i had only lasted 6 months, and I'm not sure they were as well made. I will see how the new ones go before making any judgements.) The set I have just bought cost me £70, including a nominal fee for postage. The £15 charge is exactly a quarter of that - more than V.A.T.! The fact that the lazy feckers wouldn't even deliver the package to my door (although they were there - they posted a card through the door!) is something to do with the fact that postmen are not allowed to carry money. Presumably to stop them being mugged. So, I say, mug 'em anyway! Tomorrow morning, get up nice and early, don a black ski mask and pounce your postman. He'll thank you for it! In years to come, he'll regale his gleeful family with tales of the fun the two of you used to have. But for now, just give the bugger a damn good hiding, for me. smile

I like HoP firepoi, I especially like the big ass monkey fists, and I dont want to get my stuff from anywhere else. (Yes I know I can just get it all from the UK, but that's not the point - HoP taught me to spin, and for me that's enough to ensure my loyalty as a customer.) But the customs charge thing does really put a damper on proceedings, with a secret 25% hike on the cost of your goods.

I know there are threads about this, but I can't be arsed to look them up. Does the weight of the package affect it I wonder, or is it all about the value? Hmm.

Anyway, enough of such things, I have my dirty great poi and am well happy with them. Leather handles are nice...why didn't I get them before?

Have just spent half an hour lying in the sun. That's my ration. I am going to get some lunch in a minute, then go home to do more work. (Incidentally, I spoke to my tutor, who used the words "take as long as you need" during our conversation. I am somewhat relieved, although I still need to do a shedload of work tonight.)

much love and hugs

Hi Mags wave Import duty sounds really painful. Getting stuff into Australia isn't too bad, the duty only applies on purchases above AUD400, which is about £150-160? (gee everything looks ridiculously expensive with the £ symbol in front)..

Are you coming to Womad still Mr Mags?

I've been lucky so far with stuff from HoP. Maybe its because I haven't got anything that cost a huge amount. More lots of smaller parcels that I think customs consider as gifts rather than goods.

I'm soooooooo looking forward to coming back down to Cornwall. This time we WILL make sand castles!

I doubt I'll be at WOMAD. I would have gone with Mojo, she and her family go every year, but she's back in this country now and she's made it pretty clear that things is over between us. I am very sad. frown

But I'm not going to talk about it any more here.

Have been enjoying the amazing sunshine and going to the beach a lot, Brad and I went and span fire yesterday evening (Monday 13th June) and played frisbee and stuff. Hava came down, as did Joss. Haven't seen her in ages. 'Twas cool.

Anyway, it's a Tuesday night, and I need to do some work. So that's what I'm gonna do.

Wednesday 15th June

It's Wednesday, i've just had my end of year tutorial and providing i get my case study finished by monday, i should have passed the 2nd year. Was a fairly positive tutorial, chose my options for next year (Crime and the Media + Journalism & Film) and got some pretty good feedback on my work including the magnificent line:

"Master the apostrophe, be more thorough in your research, edit quotes more judiciously and the journalism world will be your oyster."

I'm off home to eat some coco pops and to keep writing my incredibly boring case study. Hope you all have a much more exciting evening than I will.

Much love

Hey mister.

Tis a pity you aren't coming over for this wee gathering we're having.

But well done on the essays - that's a great compliment!

I did Crime in the Media too - it involved watching lots of episodes of the Bill inbetween reading through the more gruesome crimes printed smile

Take care xx

The work, as they say, is going. Slowly. It's frightfully boring to be perfectly honest, and I have to whip myself with brambles in order to make myself sit still long enough to do it. I went to my friends house and played poker last night. At one point I was up £40, but I came away with £25. Not bad for a 5r buy in. Took my housemate Nick out clean with trip Queens. Ahhh. So satisfying!

Have been feeling very down. Keep wanting to go and see Mojo, but I know that seeing her and not being able to hold her in my arms would be too much, so I'm going to keep my head down for a bit. She texts me back sometimes if i text her, but she's kinda cold. I think it's pretty hard for her.

So the question of the day is:

Can there be love without trust? Discuss.

Not sure if this answer belongs in here but I have issues trusting people, I mean actually opening up and letting people in.

I was in love a few years ago, and I suppose I always will be, in a way, but what I went through (real or not) was my own personal hell. I shouldn't have lived through it, I shouldn't have come out the other side in tact but sods law, I did. And now I have to make and sustain relationships but I'm no longer the charming, confident lad I used to be. Everything is a shadow of what I used to be (on the inside) but it's taken me this long to get this far and pieces of my puzzle are slowly being put back in to place, one at a time (searching under the sofa, in the bin, the box, the dog for said pieces).

I don't think I'll ever settle down, no matter how much I love someone because of my self-destructive nature but I hope to trust someone enough again.

*penny's worth over*

If this is irrelevant to anything pertaining in this thread, please ignore, roll up and throw in the bin.

Pull my pin out, roll me in to a room and see what happens ubbloco

Absolutely. Of course you can have love without trust.

It's just very painful, and probably shouldn't be used as the basis of a relationship.

Been there, done that. Might have learnt my lesson, might not have...

Oh hey, speaking of trust in relationships, you remember Luner, the girl I was dating? She turned out to be three years younger than she told me she was. And not called Luner! She broke off contact with everyone I know when we all found out about all the lies she was telling everyone, I guess she's moved onto a new bunch of people to bullshit now. Odd stuff, life.

Life indeed, is funny. Nuggit - All are welcome here, and all comments too. I'm sorry to hear about your pain, I hope for your sake that you can find someone worth trusting. My problem is that (apparently) I am fundamentally untrustworthy. Which sucks.

Denny - That's quite wierd. I've heard of similar things happening before to be honest. People are strange, as my Uncle Jim used to say. smile

Oh well, on with the work.

If you've got an Uncle Jim, it's the first I've heard of it. And I've known you a long time, longer than anyone else in fact.

You know that if you want your apostrophes checked, you only have to email your work to me to get it professionally proofread!

Much love always

That was a reference to the popular 70's beat combo known as The Doors. I am all too aware that I don't actually have an Uncle Jim, but ya know, spiritually?

Monday 20th June

Well, it's all handed in, and in theory I've passed the 2nd year. Now I have to start getting boxes and packing all my stuff up ready to move house on the 1st of July. Fun. I should really get a proper job as well. Hmmm. Shame it's so damn sunny.

Slept from about 3 this afternoon until 9 this evening, then got up and watched "His Girl Friday". Heh. Cary Grant's so cool. smile

Looks like i'm gonna be up all night again. Lucky i have you guys to talk to huh? ubblol
