go to this link and read. Do not stop when it at first seems a little trivial, as it takes a bit to really develop. The hair on my arms is still standing.

It is really chilling.
I mean we have all heard of Chernobyl and the disaster but rarely think about it now.. what the towns are like and such.

yeah, that was 17 years ago now (almost to the day). I haven't heard much about it in the last 10 years. There was a bit of information about it after the USSR collapsed, and a documentary about it a long time ago, but somehow it didn't really say as much as that woman's website....

edit: Err... make that 18 years. I can't count apparently...

That is one of the most thought-provoking things I have seen in a very long time!

I can't help but wonder what it must be like to actually see that region with my own eyes, just to make sense of the scale of the events all those years ago!

edited for rubbish spelling.

Wow.

This is a woman who is brave not only for going into a dangerous land, but also for daring to expose what a large and powerful government wants kept quiet.

Yes, the Soviet government is gone, but the remnants are still there. Not every bureaucrat from the Soviet days has retired or died, not every politician has been voted down. Russia is still very much Russia.

And what this lady did was very brave.

And my hair is on end, too...

Ahh! I'd die if I went in there! No sound at ALL, not even the background of cars, or people, or animals even. And the way lives were just dropped, and left there, because the people couldn't take everything with them... And it all sits there, and nothing can be done for it.

I would never be able to do that alone...

eek

But the bike part was rather nice ubblove tongue

yoicks.

I'd like to go see that one day... Its gotta be crazy.
Even just the small things like how you cant step off the roads... its nuts.

In 600 years (+/- 300 years) if humans go back there, what do you think they would say? Chernobyl was in 86, right? so 18 years ago and it looks like that... will it be the same in 600? No one touches the place. Its like a time capsule.
