I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.

Great to see another weird-languaged fellow here beerchug

Although our languages have the same root(in lack of better word and laziness of fetching dictionary), i have spent many good times laughing at German words like krankenwagen and sauerkraut and so on.. ubbrollsmile

Would u happen to have any exampes of such good words for me? I will give you examples of funny danish words in exchange...! Tempting, eh..?

oh, sorry..but seriously-it's quite a funny language wink or maybe i'm just being weird..dunno...

****************Anyway-nice to meet you*******************

Wow - so many answers. regarding to Elanna´s post, I reallly feel welcome in "your wonderful world of posting" smile Thanks!
All of you, nice to meet you too!

spritie, I live in the middle West of Germany... about 200km south-west from Hannover (just in Case someone knows where Hannover is biggrin )
Not very exciting at all - but well....my home. Have you been to Germany once?

.oO*Sprout*Oo. , did you know, we have an official word of the year? In fact, we have even more than one...they created categories and subcategories and subsubcategories.... 1998 it was "Belegschaftsaltlasten" and 1999 : "Kollateralschaden" . I like that. Must be something like doublespeak award in USA.

Pink, Yes , Life of Brian is great. Meaning of Life as well... I love all of them. Especially in orginal language. The changes are toooo big when translatig to german. For example: "Shut the [censored] up" is translated to "Bitte seien Sie ruhig" which is very polite and means something like "Would you mind to be more quiet, sir?" Maybe you know what I mean...

Well, I´m gonna go to say Hello to you in your intro posts right now... cya wave

cheers, michael

Yup, I went to Germany when I was 9. I'll be back in Sept. of this year though! I'm going to visit vanize in Berlin.

I couldn't imagine watching monty python movies dubbed in German. That same phrase came across as so completely boring, dull, and unhumorous. (I know some german by the way).

Are you Germans never allowed to see a movie in its' original language or..?

Haha -word of the year..really...??!!?!? Dug up a strange word today..: overgangsfattigkær...hahahaaah Danish has a special way of being funny when mixed with a little english pronounciation, but really it sounds more like somewhere in the middle of dutch and german i think..(?)
