I've been lurking for a while and have been halfheartedly trying to learn poi for about a month now. I've finally decided that online lessons / giving myself massive bruises is not the best way to learn. Are there any spinners in NYC willing to meet up and teach me?

Hi all,
Thanks for the welcome. smile

Kombi guy: I actually checked that already--but it looks like the information is outdated. The most recent contact added was 12/03 (which I concede is fairly recent). The one before that, however, was from 2002. But I guess if all else fails, I'll email those people regardless of when they were added. tongue

Hello Sthenno...welcome aboard good ship HoP wave

From memory members from New York include the obligatory NYC and Bullblishis and I'm sure they will be more than willing to help point you in the right direction, drop in their intro threads and says hello to them.

See you later and a peice of advise about learning is the first couple months getting bruises in the worst places imaginable AND black eyes is par the course...just get past that and it's plain sailing baby!

Thanks. I'll look them up. biggrin

Escrima is Filipino stickfighting. More info: https://www.daimi.au.dk/~jpsdiry/arnis/docs/ma-faq-fma.txt
or https://www.martialartsresource.com/anonftp/pub/eskrima/digests/fmafaq.htm

It's the most practical of all the martial arts I've taken ("Most Filipino arts, but Kali in particular, stress the importance of disarming an opponent in combat. This is not usually done gently, but by destroying an attacking weapon (break the hand, and the stick will fall.)"), but not as fun as capoeira. tongue

I was always scared with my mother's obsession with the good scissors. It made me wonder if there were evil scissors lurking in the house somewhere.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.
