Hi everyone!

I'm a poi beginner, as I just bought my poi two days ago. I saw a guy in California spinning poi a few years ago, but at that time didn't know what they were.

After working up courage in my bedroom today and managing not to smash anything, I went and tried some it in the garden. I read that poi-spinning is supposed to help you sleep more easily, but I'm writing this at 3.44am. Maybe that comes with practice. :-)

I've done some contact juggling, do some magic, too. But have (unfortunately) never known many people who were into that kind of thing.

I'm 28 and live in Glasgow now - before that spent some time in Canada, England, and Germany.

Hobbies: I read a lot (Raymond Carver, Margaret Atwood...), write, do pottery, long distance hiking/camping.
Music: Tom Waits, Ani DiFranco (not the only fan on this forum, I see!), Cowboy Junkies, Springsteen..
Films: Saw "Finding Nemo" yesterday, which is amazing. Films by Woody Allen.

Anyway, just wanted to say hi. It's amazing to see so many friendly, poi-spinning people - hopefully I'll get to know some of you soon!

Alex

peace

Wow, thanks for all the replies! Pounce, your fire video is greeeat - the one on your website! (Yes, I'm nosey!). Today I was out in the sun, swinging like a maniac, wishing that my poi were made of molten lava, or something equally impressive and deadly. Then changed my mind when I hit myself in the nads, but it was fun anyway.. afterwards. I'm trying to get the two hands of the weave to work together. Hmmm.

Mike, I know what you mean about the boat at Niagara - it felt like a cattle mart. The wild coast of BC more than made up for it, though. It's nice to meet another "mad doctor" - maybe someday we'll be able to tip the balance in the medical profession in favour of tolerance and fun!

I feel naive not knowing what dropbears are. Half my family live in Oz, so I've been there a couple of times. If it's a joke like the ones we have here about haggis-hunting, I probably ignored it! :-) I was probably too busy staring at some amazing parrot, plant, or multi-coloured creature. Luckily, I managed to avoid the feral Canadian mountain kangaroo!

Hi Pink! I like the film Pretty in Pink, and the Psychedelic Furs song. Most of all I like flamingoes, but I think for me the pink has to be attached to something meaningful, for instance a (meaningful) flamingo. Don't have any pink pictures, but will keep my eyes open and send any good'uns your way! smile
