If you're worried about ending up on the jury with an odd person then don't. That's not to say you won't end up on jury with an odd person. I was on a jury with a very odd person (won't bore with details but trust me) and we ended up going on the beer a few times by the end of it.

There will be different people of different ages, from all walk of life. You will be very much together and it will be a good experience. Don't worry about it.

I was on a pretty hard manslaughter case with a hint of murder that was very emotional including testimony from the deceased children and wife but I felt better for the experience afterwards.

Being on jury service made me convinced we should have professional jurors. The amount of utter crap that came out of their mouths; it was a child abuse case, after the first testimony by the accused one of the jurors said "Of cause he's a peadophile. He looks like one." That's the level of stupidity you're going to have to put up with, plus you're in and out of the court every half hour. It is very, very dull. Nothing to be scared of at all.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

I agree there are some extremely dumb people. We had this guy who agreed with everything anyone said continually. Going back on what he had just said seconds earlier. Like that guy in the fast show ubblol

The thing is though that if people like that's opinion doesn't cut it, then it's made very clear it doesn't. Well at least that's your responsibility as a juror. smile

Jury duty is a good way for you to help someone in need. The only problem is, figuring out who is the one in need. Sometimes the accused isnt guilty, sometimes they are.

Listen to the facts and don't let your own personal opinion sway you. It is about facts not if you like the way the person looks or not.

Yeah, that's exactly what im worried about.

I know that if there's someone who's just stupid like thinking someone's guilty cause of what they look like, then i'm probably going to get angry with them.

I don't want to get angry with anyone, but if i believe i'm standing up for something then i will, and i won't bakc down. I'm trying to get something positive out of it though.

thanks!

You guys still have jurys? Heh... we usually just leave it up to the media to determine guilt in criminal cases.

Well, shall we go?

I've not yet had to do jury service. In some ways, I'd like to, because I'd like to have some actual idea about how the court system works, on the other hand, it can be an enormous waste of time.

If there are people on the jury that feel that guilt can be decided (innocence is presumed, remember wink ) on the looks of the accused, then it is your job to make sure you are as vocal as possible on why the facts should decide. This is why there are 12, not 1 people.

Use it to make our justice system look worthwhile, rather than the mockery it currently seems to be (see also NYC's comment frown )

Juries are still important in the US, all mockery aside. Remember that most criminal trials involve nobodies, and are important only to them.

Well, the US justice system isn't perfect, as with everything in this world it has its own flaws. I don't think it is bad as the school systems, but when you think about it the liberal media doesn't care about schools or facts in a case they just care about selling papers and TV time slots. But Regyt is right, they only really interfear in the high-profile cases. Some gangbanger who killed another really... no media really cares about.

Oh yipee. A welcome back punch in the face from Ray. Good to feel the hate again, I was actually letting my guard down.

I guess I owe Dom a beer for thinking that you'd stick to your word.

The US justice system is at least as bad as the education system! And it's just getting worse and worse, what with the Feeney Amendment and other frightning progressions. But I'll stifle that rant, until I lose my laziness enough to start a thread of its own.

E pluribus unum, baby.
