Reverse 5 beat is a killer. I've got big spikes in my right ear, when I first tried to learn 5BtW Rev I kept on catching my ear. FFFffffffuuuuuu&***&*&*(*(((((kkkk. My body learnt very quickly not to move my arms in that pattern. Consequently I didn't learn it until about 2 years later!!!!! Conquor your fears,

That's a nice site - spherculism.com. Takes a while for the tutorial movies to load, but I am on the other side of the planet...

Nice one with getting the 5-beat. The 4 beat is simply doing the move of the 5 beat on the right hand side of you, and the move of the 3 beat on your left hand side. 5 + 3 = 8, so turns into 4 beats on each side smile It feels wrong - it's not symetrical.

Hope that helps!

I do poi nearly every day. But it's not like I'm addicted or anything. I mean, sure, I am always conscious of exactly where my poi are at all times, but I'm not obsessed. um.. Anyone have the number for Poi-ers Anon?

Hey good for you, indeed the reverse is quite entertaining to learn... biggrin

When you learn that though, why not post it [Old link] so that poi moves doesn't get full of everyones accomplishments and you have one place to track what moves you've learnt when... smile

Congradulations! That moves takes so much time to learn. It took me two months longer to learn it in reverse and it's still not very good.
anyway... hug

Yeah, the 5 beat was one of those moves that just 'clicked' for me too. I practiced it a bit to no avail and eventually gave up saying Id figure it out later. Then one day, I was just doin it up freestyle and it hit me. I realized I was still trying to cross over to the right with my left hand. Once I figured out I needed to cross with my right, I picked it up pretty quick. Reverse took me a bit to get comfortable with and stop hitting myself... Maybe 3 weeks or so. But I think I got them both fairly fluent now smile

Let's turn those old bridges we crossed into ashes.
We'll blaze a new trail,
and torch the rough patches.

I am so glad i figured the five beat out. Now i can do some really neat things with the size of the circles. Spinning a three beat on your right side so the beats that are normally on your left side are in front of you and the ones on your right r behing you when the poi come back to my front for the chase i extend my arms so it makes a huge circle then start a five beat sp it makes a little circle in front of me Then i continue the rest of the five beat behind me These past few weeks ive been spinning like a mad man cool And thats not a complaint weavesmiley smile weavesmiley

Hey well done. I love 5 beat weave.
This weekend the reverse 5 beat just 'clicked' for me, and I was so happy. Unfortunately, I went away for a juggle and when I came back it had 'clicked out' again! ubblol Now I seem to smack myself in the head all the time. Ow.
Hopefully it'll come back to me. wink

i have just recently learned to do the 5 beat weave behind my back. It is a bit of a shoulder popper at first but quite comfortable with it now. you need to concentrate on the drag to the side just just like you do when you are doing the reverse 5 beat weave.
Can't quite tell whether iit would be noticed to the non-poi person, but I am enjoying and that's what makes it fun for me!!

Hilary: Nice one for getting the 5BtW BTB. I can do it forwards but not reverse.

Who cares if a non poi spinner notices the difference. What's important is that You Understand how to do it. The process you went through to gain this Understanding is the important thing and by doing so you have undoubtably increased the quality of every poi pattern you do. So well done, keep up the hard work wink

Yes congrats - both of you. Those kinds of moves seem so far away to me. Isn't is awsome to see progress? Love that.

De nada Senor PoiPoi. Keep it rockin.

I find it interesting how unlearnt poi moves seem like a lifetime away when in reality they could be as close as your next 5 minute practice ubbtickled

am I the only one who finds backwards easier? My balls took a lot of punnishment learning forwards, but backwards was a synch!

when i first learnt i didnt know it was a five beat, and kept trying to break my arms doing what turned out to be seven, a week later someone put me right....

Heheh, someone else I vaguely know had that as well... they were trying for the 5bt and twisted their arms too far smile
