I just thought that I would review my new beaming poi. I was so excited today to finally get my new beaming poi in the mail.. The second I ripped the pakcage open I started swinging. I totally wasn't expecting them to clock me in the knees. They look really cool in the dark, but these things hurt like hell if you aren't swinging straight. This is the closest thing to fire that I have gotten because I def. don't think i'm good enough for fire yet and i don't have the money. If you in the same situation I still give a thumbs up to the beamers. They are cool looking but if your one of those who like to swing at excessive speeds, you might want to wear a helmet smileYay for beaming poi!!!

I dreamt that I ate a 10 pound marshmellow and then when I woke up, my pillow was gone!

Okay, so I bought two of the beaming balls, without the cords or anything and I have no idea how I'm supposed to attach them to anything for swinging...can you help me out??Cheers,C

If you check out the shop on HOP they have a couple things that you can attach them to. They have these cool looking ball chains that clip right onto the ring and they have a thicker string with leather straps. I got the one with the leather straps and I kind of wish that I spent the extra 20 bucks to get the chains... I imagine that chains are a bit more challenging because they are heavier. That is my biggest problem in adjusting to the beaming poi because they are considerably heavier than my training poi. smile Good luck.Matt

actually now that I think of it you could even take a trip to any hardware store and put together some thicker string and one of those key-chain like rings and had some sort of grip.. that would prob suffice.. but i think that the ones on the site are pretty decent.

Yep, beaming poi sure are cool, but they're way too heavy to swing comfortably, and hurt like hell when they hit you smileMatt, if you're good enough to use beaming poi without killing yourself, you sure are good enough to use fire. It's far less dangerous. Really.

Agree- hitting myself with the beaming one is a totally new dimension of pain.

Tell me about it! *grin* My mate had her new ones for NYE(her staff hadn't arrived by then! frown )She told me to be careful but I didn't realise they'd be that heavy ( I only have light ones!)i only hit myself once or twice before I learnt to be a lot n=more careful! Probably a good thing! But we were in a field in the middle of nowhere and they looked AMAZING (but not as cool as the fire twirling! *grin*)

you know, i bought some of these a while back, and i dont even take them out anymore. it comes down to safety for me. i personally consider fire safer than these any day of the week. i whenever i take out my beaming poi i find i dont dance at all because they are so dangerous and my style so erratic. i am wild with fire. if i were wild with BP, i dont even want to imagine... but, this is not to say that everyone should go out and light up first because it is 'safer'. to each their own, but for me, fire is so much safer.

Wow

And yet we call them "toys"...

Seriously, what's up with that? If I can kill a man with something I don't think it should be called a "toy".

Yay for beaming poi!!!

It does say they're not for beginners, and if you can't spin for a long time without hitting yourself it's probably best to stay away till you can...on the other hand it's good incentive to become good enough to not clock yourself!! Oh and I wouldn't recommend practising new moves either. Glad it hasn't put you off tho cuz they do look wicked!

I was with some jugglers at the weekend (Hello Pink Hater ) and they had some lovely balls (fnarr fnarr) that glowed much better than the beamers and were softer too, just enough to not break your cheek bones if you know what I mean!! Now I just have to figure out how to attach them to my chains!!!

Try fire, it doesn't hurt any where near as much if you do hit yourself and you don't really burn yourself either

Let's relight this forum ubblove

Believe me - they're a whole lot more painful and dangerous than fire. Hitting yourself with fire really doesn't hurt - it just singes the hair.

My beamers should be here soon!!

*crosses fingers and sits next to the door waiting for the nice postman*

I hit myself in the face with Beth's beamers the other weekend while on holiday, several people heard the thump, but it didn't seem to hurt that much!

*shrugs*

maybe i'm just strange!?
