Name: Pele (based on the Volcano Goddess not the soccer player)

B-Date: Oct 16, 1973, you figure out the age wink

Been doing this stuff: Many years

What do I do?: It all, just not well smile

Job: Performer, Event Organizer, Writer, Director, Performance Consultant, Henna Artist...not in that order

Location: Webster, Western New York State

Other: Proud mother of one 11 1/2 year old named Noah.

Pets: 1 Bearded Dragon named Harley, 1 Guinea Pig named Snowflake, 2 cats: Joujou Grisgris and Fizzgig, r.i.p. goldie and sage (the snakes)

Hobbies: Reading, mostly dark novels and fantasy-ish stuff, along with business and performing books. Fantasy Art. Movies, love movies. Music..almost any kind really. Learning, don't really care about what. I have an amazing aptitude at retaining incredibly useless knowledge....just ask Kombiguy, Gardening, especially herbs and veggies. Cooking....oh how I love to cook.....with the herbs I grow. Artsy stuff.

All of my favorites are based on moods, such as food, color, drinks, etc. I always love Popcorn as a snack though. It's rather a greasy-salty addiction to tell you the truth.

Things I love: My friends...more than they could ever possibly know, the elements, life on the whole, a hot cup of tea cuddled under a blanket on a cold night with all the lights off and a good movie on and a roaring fire going. To lay in the shade in cool sand on a hot day with water at my feet and look for shapes in the clouds. Watching my son be melodramatic, especially when reading outloud. He cracks me up. Making up constellations in a full starry sky.

Personal outlook: All of live should be lived with passion and conviction, preferrably in what we love rather than what we don't love. Faith should be strongest within ourselves than in a preacher in a pulpit. Every day is the chance to begin again, to mend broken things and to be who we want....it is NEVER too late.

Pet Peeves: Stupid commercials. Bad drivers (other than me of course! smile ). The words "I can't". (I have more but I am in such a good mood they slip my mind...ooops!)

Anyway....ummmm....I have no idea what else to say here so I will leave it up to questions, comments, harrassments...whatever.

hug

Ok, so if we start from 2003, minus the amount of ducks I've seen driving mopeds and add seven for every badger which attacked an english child under the age of 42, just because they can't do handstands at three o'clock in the morning. Oooooh Valura...how pretty! I adore that!

Gnor... In my henna I use Cajeput as a mordant. It has to be made a day in advance but it makes the Henna set faster so that people can take it off sooner. I also found that it gets less allergic reactions. It smells amazing too! I agree it is one of the reasons I love doing Henna, the soothing smell! smile

Pounce...Thank you. Anything you want to know I will gladly answer, though I am sure you can look forward many more diatribes in the future though! wink

arsn... Exactly! How smart you are!:p

Regyt... I hope so too! And I hope to get you into a costume sometime in the near future wink (sorry been busy lately..haven't forgotten you! hug )

Rob... I like you too! hug

Malcolm... I siad based on the goddess, as in what I aspire to be a few lifetimes from now silly! Ooooh...my avatar...she looks so, so normal now. Thank you! Relaxing weekend? I am currently performing in the Dickens Festival again (playing a hunter/trapper woman this year, not the matchgirl) and that takes up all my weekends. Mondays are my days off! wink
And how did you know we went out to the ice cream parlor tonite? Sometimes I swear you are psycho...er....psychic! wink hug

gnor...I just get my Cajeput from the local health store where they sell all the essential oils. My friend from Yemen however says that because of the smell she knows that is what went into the Henna she wore as a child. It does make the stains take faster and deeper, but in return they also do not last as long...about 10 days. I will have to put up the photo's of my left hand two days after I had done it. It was soooooo dark.

Spanner...it was still Henna that was on her nails. It stains the nails as well, very deeply and permanently. I accidentally got the henna on two of my nails a couple months ago...it has finally grown out. When I got sick of it I just covered it with nailpolish though. smile There are different forms of Henna and different body chemistries which cause the Henna to turn out different shades or colors on different people.
What I can say is please stay away from Black Henna (I use is Morroccan Green Henna). Many people have a very adverse allergic reaction to Black Henna which has caused open blisters and sores to appear. Really Yucky!

Oh I sooo love talking about this stuff! lol

Did you also know Henna stains just about anything? It is great on clays, canvas, untreated leatherheads on drums, hair, light colored woods, even some forms of fabrics......I love experimenting with it! biggrin

Ooo... the henna on drum heads sounds like a grand idea!

glad to see your new intro post Pele!

It is a shame that so many intros got lost, but it may have been a blessing in disguise, as new life seems to have been breathered into many of them (or is it just my imagination?).

We tried Mendi oil and it made no difference but smelt really nice smile and clove oil that was expensive and not as good as Eucalyptus oil.
Will check the local store next time Im there for the special oil stuff. smile
Im not keen on the way the henna make your fingernails look like you are a muliti pack a day smoker. Urk. mad
Cannot buy henna plant in this state anywhere and it costs a small fortune to get the plants from another state as well. Plus I have a kill plants thumb. So might prove an expensive and fruitless excercise.
It amazes me the different colours that a mix turns out of different body parts and different bodies too.
We have had some really dud batches and fab ones made the same way. Go figure.
Does an aliminium pot make any difference to the batch.

I love seeing other designs so post them please. Whenever a friend comes back from India she always has very impressive designs. cool

The smell of henna is so gorgeous... I really love drying out lime slices to use in my mixes, because I hang them on strings in my closet to dry out, so all my clothes end up smelling of lime.

Hi Pele,

Just wanted to stop by and say hi, and thanks, as it was finding your "season in hell" article which pointed me at HoP, and hence here I am. smile I also think it has probably saved me from horrific injury further down the line, as it really brought home the dangers of what I'm learning to do....

I hope your recovery is going well!

Thanks again,
hugs,
