whilst spinning last night, I was attacked by a HUGE poi hating, eyelid attacking moth!
eek
I'm not kidding, this thing was a behemouth, and right in the middle of my spin, it came out of nowhere and landed on my face, grabbing and pulling on my eyelid while beating me about the face with it wings. I had no idea what was going on. Then it flew off and I thought it was a bat at first, but when it landed we could see it was moth - this thing was huge - like 7 inch wingspan, no exageration - I have photographic evidence Note the full sized lighter and my LED poi along side for scale!

wow, that one is pretty humngous as well! But at least yours was placid and didn't try to pull your friggin eyelids off!

Once he saw the size of the moth, one of the other fire spinners said, "considering the size of that thing, I should ask, 'are you ok?!?'"

don't even get me started on the wasp stories! There ain't no place like Texas when it comes to wasps...

or maybe there is, but I've never been there.

The South African hoch veld is definitely moth territory though. you wouldn't beleive how many moths they have around here.

My bros and I got back at them though

Nothing like fusing about 5 M-80s together, lighting the fuse, tossing it into the tire that housed them, and running like hell before they find out it was you who just blew their buddies and home up. ubblol *Note*Don't ever try at home you kiddies!* tongue

We tried the Raid spray, but it didn't even phase them eek

ever dealt with cicada killers ? we had an infestation of these 2-3 inch wasps in my parents back yard for a couple of years when I was 8 or 9. we used to go out in the back yard with tennis racquets to hunt them (run like hell when you miss!!!). My mom got stung by one once and was laid up for about 18 hours (partly because it initiated a migrane headache).

Also once found a colony of hornets in my mom's yard - the nest was 3 feet high and about 4 feet in diameter (around a sego palm trunk that was about 1.5 foot around). Getting rid of that nest was something else. No exterminators would touch the thing so I had to do it myself. There were hundreds of them attacking me by the time I was done (I was wearing a parka, combat boots, ski gloves, three layes of jeans, and had cheese cloth across my face when I did it). It was flat out insane. Only got stung once though

I've seen them before, but didn't ever mess with them and they never really bothered me. Of course I never had the luxury of having an infestation of the things. That would so suck! Never dealt with hornets either. Saw em flying about, but that was about it.

I REALLY disliked the red wasps! Them things will chase anything down if they are pissy. spank

Whoa! Stuff that thing and tell your grandkids about it!
Or stick it on the barbie and open a few tinnies smile

They don't have violent moths in Berlin you know. Your life just isn't going to be as dangerous once you move.

yeah, I think you are right about that Dom - and not just the moths. I think Berlin's crime rate might just be a bit lower than Johannesburg's!
