I've finally put up new videos on thevenue.org's fire spinning section: https://www.thevenue.org/firespinning_videos.htm

In particular, for your viewing pleasure I bring you: Dervishly Yers (from now on, this one will be known as "Nick With Fire II"

I had more videos up for a while, but then I received a $75 invoice from my hosting company, for the 10+ Gigs of traffic that the videos generated. Sadly, I can't afford that. So I've cut back the video selection until I find a cheaper place to host the files, or until I figure out how to make more money fire spinning.

I've also posted video clips of environmentally friendly shake off techniques: Poi Shake Off and Staff Shake Off

I had "Nick With Fire" on the site for quite a while, and I received some great feedback from a variety of homeofpoi.com-sters. It meant a lot to me as inspiration, so here's back atcha.

Peace,

Nick

(p.s. I'll post these in quicktime and maybe another format as well as soon as I get my hands on the right software)

Staffs... I had some video of staff somewhere... where'd it go... hmmm.

If I've still got it, I'll post it. I'd gotten a bit rusty with staff when we videotaped, so I wasn't that keen to put it up. Later in the summer I'll be sharp with staff again, and I'll put some video up then.

And on the video tip, it seems I've already run up a bill for about six GB of downloads. I might have to take down a couple, or figure out how to make money as a fire spinner.

Eek. Sadly, I'm not making it to Om. A couple of months back I emailed Dave to say I would try, but things didn't work out. Stupid money/jobs/etc

As for Edinburgh: You never know!

I've taken down some of the videos. Hopefully that will reduce my traffic costs.

Does anybody know where I can host video files with low traffic rates?

homestead.com charges 70 bucks to start up yearly account. you get 5 GB per month on that plan. They are some crooked B@54rds though, they only take credit card and they will automaticaly raise your prices every year without telling you befor hand.

GISOL 1000mb server space, 65GB per month in traffic.... doubt you will find better for $7/$8 a month, with contorl pannels, php, mysql and all other fine cookies in one bag for that price. i'm even thinking of transfering to them, once i have the funds. only thing thats putting me off, is how to tranfer my MYSQL database over to a new server without starting afresh.

Dunno why it took me so long to see this one but it's right lovely. Smooth as silk... Clearly well defined moves... uniquely fluid style.

Well, shall we go?

Well, my plan is to spend the winter on poi retreat in Thailand. Then I'll come home in March and make a video that's another step up!

At that point I'll find a better server solution. For now it seems to be ok, now that I've taken a couple videos off. I promise I'll put a whole whack of stuff up next spring.

Also, I'll hopefully be able to bring back some nice video footage from Thailand. Not that I have a video camera, but somehow I'd love to get some footage anyway.

Yes, Shen Shui has been good to me, and istantly became a good friend. He has a habit of making me drink beer every time I go over to his house, though, which always makes me incapable of demonstrating whatever trick I had finally mastered earlier the same day.

Regarding videos: Yes, I actually have some done, but I'm waiting to finish the new website to release them, as I want to use them to promote the new website, as well as all the EXCITING PLANS.

I'm also about to go to a TOP SECRET location to engage in a TOP SECRET and very exciting video project. I could tell you what and where, but then I'd have to kill you.

Hopefully we'll have a workable version of the website up in two weeks, and I'll start releasing videos smile

In the meantime, I've got a blog going at www.playpoi.blogspot.com

paints an interesting picture...
if offering someone a beer is tantamount to holding a gun to their head and forcing them to drink, then consider me guilty (but i didnt shoot the deputy - that was sherrif dan brown).

nik's lovely and funny. im honoured to have him around.

Hey man, guns aren't the only way to manipulate people. You're a great guy, feng, but sneaky, man, sneaky. Forcing me to drink a beer would be waaaaayyy to obtuse for you chi-energy types. No no. you have to wait for me say something like, "hey, can I have a beer?" and BOOM, you're in there! I bet you learned that in Chinese medicine school, you psychopath. It's a good thing you gave me all those new poi ideas and acupuncture and massages, or I'd start to wonder why I hung out with you every day.

And in other news, VIDEO NEWS, I give you all some fun little videos of Matt, the world's best spherculist, doing sphercular things:

Nick, thanks for those vids- matt is something of of an idol for me as I learnt all sorts of weird and wonderful things from him via the site- seeing him in action (and knowing hes brewing up all sorts of plans with you no doubt) is really exciting stuff biggrin

Just to add- Spherculism. com is down, but Spherculism.NET is up, and has been acting as a semi-temporary home whilst matt is off galavanting around the Australasia. I just thought you may wish to edit your blog entry smile

Thanks again smile

i gave you new poi ideas? -ahem- redface here i was thinking it was the other way around.. maybe things DO swing both ways.. intriguing..

and, also, i just have to say... nik's my idol. out of all the vid's i've seen, his inspired me the most (followed by naganootch (aka cleric), and also including the amazing wibbler himself, matt terry. imagine my "we're not worthy (courtesy of waynes world)" when i saw he was coming to nz! and then: he rung me up! oh how my heart did beat faster and my nervousness get turned up to maximum.... and he stayed at my house! he talked with me! he spun with me! wow!

thanks, nik! a dream come true! i didnt think i'd get to meet and spin with you for a few years...

(and, i've PMed with matt, and he's coming to wellington at some stage in the next year or so, how about that? that only leaves the incredible cleric to turn up on my doorstep...)

(and just to keep things a little bit on topic: )
are not those vid's of matt's amazing? such smoothness and control.... i had to pick my jaw up off the floor a number of times when nik showed me them... far out!
