Your favourite website/s: this one!!

Favourite Toys: only got a firestick. It's about 5 foot I think, a bit too big for me I'd love to try those glowing ones.

Been twirling for: I'm a hopeless new starter from a land where this kind of thing is considered an occult practice, looking for some tips from people who know better

Occupation: Work in H.R. but will shortly be taking a long Summer break in Germany where my boyfriend lives. I'd like to practice while he's out at work - seems like a good opportunity to invest some time in learning this. Oh yes - can anyone point me to a collapsible/sectionned firestick that will fit in a suitcase???

Hobbies: Music (cello, piano, guitar), travelling (bought my firestick in Oz when I was there last year but not done anything with it yet), writing, swimming.

Music: Eclectic tastes include - Kirsty MacColl, Beth Orton, The Cure, R.E.M., Travis, Paul Kelly, Bob Dylan, Kylie!!, The Beatles, Daft Punk, Air, Nick Drake, Janis Ian, Crowded House, A-ha, U2, David Bowie, classical stuff,

Movies: Truth About Cats and Dogs (mainly because it has the lovely Ben Chaplin in), The Lion King, Silence of the Lambs (told you I was eclectic)

Books: David Baddiel's "Whatever Love Means" and "Time for Bed", Thomas Harris books, Lolita, Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Beach.

Favourite Colour: Blue is the colour, blue blue electric blue.

Favourite Quote/Saying: ...etc "For when that one great scorer comes to write against your name, he writes not that you won or lost but how you played the game" (don't know who said it) Also "Carpe Diem" (Robin Williams - Dead Poets Society ;-) - think someone else said it first though!!)

Odd. I know of at least two staff spinners in Leeds. I know they're there I taught them myself.

And Jo Derry lives in Leeds. He's quite famous in occult terms.

Then there's Sheffield. Which is full of the swines.

There's a staff in the HOP shop that comes to peices. Whether it'll fit in a suitcase is another matter. If you click here it should take you right to it.

Hope this helps.

Oh welcome to the site by the way.

Hello, Katie

Welcome to HoP.
I just started learning staff, too and got one from the shop here. It comes apart and works fine for me. As for traveling with it, I haven't done so yet but will soon. I think it breaks down to about two feet, so as long as your suitcase has enough room, you should be fine.
Well, have fun.

C@ntus - I would be eager to get in touch with the Leeds-based staff spinners, do you know how this is possible?
Many thanks,

The 2 that I spoke of juggle at Cabbage. You could try looking for them there.

If you want to find others in your area I suggest you try looking in the meet otters section.

hello and welcome I would say something interesting but that's beyond me. So I'll stick at this. Don't think I'm being unwelcoming though - i just have very little brainpower left after that last essay.

But hello all the same. Pleased to meet you

So C@antus, is it possible to meet otters in the meet others sections? Poi, a pastime that transcends species barriers, AMAZING! We should tell the Sun, in fact forget the Sun lets go straight to the Sport, they always want to know whats going on! I can see the headlines now...

The answer is never the answer. What's really interesting is the mystery. If you seek the mystery instead of the answer, you'll always be seeking. I've never seen anybody really find the answer-- they think they have, so they stop thinking. But the job is to seek mystery, evoke mystery, plant a garden in which strange plants grow and mysteries bloom. The need for mystery is greater than the need for an answer.-- Ken Kesey

I always say meet otters when i link to the meet otters section and I'm damn well going to keep doing it til gets a laugh (dagnabbit).

I've done it on numerous threads. Generally someone clever sod comes along and points it out eventually.

I'm slightly baffled as to why people insist on putting an extra a in my name though......

I don't know Cantus

Especially because there isn't an "a" if it's spelt with the @ symbol.

So it's not really an extra a at all, grammar-wise (what a great word!), it is an A that should not be there in the first place.

But, hey, at leats we all love ya anyway...

Well spotted C@ntus, I suppose when being a smart arse pedant I should make sure my spelling and grammar are present and correct, in fact I think I'll invent a saying to explain it, maybe something about not throwing greenhouses when you live in stones...
