Hi there,

The wick is the whole end of the poi, either a round tube design or a cube in the case of cathedrals.

Find yourself a pot that will hold both wicks (eg an old paint tin), fill with either Paraffin or Kerosene (both names for the same type of fuel), and then soak the wick end of the poi in it

Careful not to drop your handles in as it really isn't pleasant spinning with fuel soaked handles (but I can bet you it will happen before too long )

Hope this helps,

Mark P

Damn fuel soaked handles. Rubbed the skin away on two of my fingers, but did I stop spinning? Noooooo. I had the most painful scabs as they healed and could barely bend the injured finger for two days.

Definitely keep your handles out of your fuool. Kero is the devil.

you should soak them for like 10 minutes then take them out and swing them forwards so you get all of the eccess fuel off then make sure you have someone standing off to one side so that way they can pat you out if you accidently light yourself on fire. The fuel will eventually run out so you don't have to put them out unless you have had enough

Actually, well-used wicks only need to soak for about 10 seconds. New wicks need to soak longer--maybe 2 minutes.

For long soaks, I always take the wicks off the chains, avoiding the dropped-grip problem. For short soaks, I'm wearing the grip when I soak.

Here is a page about wick materials you can use.

An article on what kevlar is.

How to make your wick last longer

Fire head construction

I hope these are helpful and informative. If not try not to hate me too much....

I don't think you've ever posted a link that hasn't been helpful and/or informative, C@ntus.
Well, at least not that I've noticed anyway

But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

C@ntus...I dont know what is worse, seeing that people have actually spent time on making these things or the hit stats that the sitre gets each week.

Yeah, ok, it is funny, but I'm not sure how good it is for people's mental well-baing...

Well, I suppose there's a first time for everything, although that cheered me up no end so it could be called helpful, but completely irrelevant and uninformative
