Posted: I can do the BTB weave fine, and lately i've been working on the reverse (or for a few months actually, kind of stopped because of previous whackings of the head) When learning the reverse of the weave be it BTB or regular it's to be able to turn with it (i'm sure we all agree) I can turn around in circles with the BTB weaves except i don't understand if i'm actually doing it right since i can't possibly do the RBTB weave. So i would like to know if anyone else can do this too or if this is even a move or a new one where it just spins once on each side as i turn.
And 1 more thing, i think i'm ready to step up to the pate for fire, and i want to do it and all but i know i'll catch myself on fire because if it weren't for bad luck i'd have no luck at all. So i was wondering if you guys do anything to stop catching on fire other than be careful because my parents think i will go up in flames the second i lite the poi. So just want to know some .... dare i say it.... safety stuff about fire too, like if there are any special things to wear to help convince my parents that i'm good enough. Thanks guys
Posted: well first prevention of fire... There are many ways!
Wear all cotton or natural fabric, these fabrics just burn as opposed to something like polyester which would burn onto your skin, ever felt melted plastic?! If you have long hair bundle it up into a bennie or get it wet first that will prevent fire on the hair... Don't do it near anything flamable like your fuel... DUH!
This is what I've got... You can look up alot more on the site either in the forum from previous posts or on the site itself...
You must clarify what the reverse BTB weave is because most people I know do it backwards (backwards weave, behind the back) so if you say reverse does this mean you first learned it going forwards? Anyways I was taught an exercise wich made it extra useful to try and learn the weave:
move pois in front together going tic toc from one side to another ton the tic put one behind your back then toc on the next tic put the other behind your back FOLLOWING THE SAME PATTERN INFRONT, tic toc now move it to the left and in front (tic toc) move it back and to the right (tic toc)...
It will help your flexibility with all the BTB moves making it a lot easier to learn them...
You made a reference to another weave in your post... I dont think I know the name of it but is it the one where the weave is behind the back but going in front of you on both sides (alternating of course)...
Posted: Thanks for the info, the regular BTB weave for me is when i am doing a backwards swing, and the poi are coming to my face. If that helps at all...

Posted: If you turn 360 degrees you kind of cheat because you don't have to ever complete the full weave, you only do half. Which is easier to learn 'cos it doesn't involve knowing the other half. If you can do 360 in both directions then you should be able to do the whole thing soon.
As I understand, direction of moves behind the back is the same as it is when doing them in front of you, reverse weave tries to break your nose and forwards pounds the back of your head..

Posted: C'mon Saggy,
Get yourself lit up There really isnt that much too it, as has been said before in this post choose suitable clothing (a pair of jeans and a cotton T-Shirt should suffice) make sure hair is out of the way or covered and then go for it.
Have someone acting as a safety ready with a wet cloth, they should be briefed so that if you get in trouble or set yourself on fire then they will come in and put you out with the cloth. Most situations this will be entirely unnecessary as you are only burning paraffin (even when I got a poi wrapped around my elbow last night I managed to free it with only very small surface burns) but it is nice to know that there is someone there if everything goes a bit wrong (and it will probably keep your parents a little happier too!).
If you are at the stage where you can do BTB weaves then I definately think you ought to try with fire, my first go with fire I could only do 3-beat weave and butterfly!
Posted: Thanks Guys, i am now finally actually doing the full turns, I haven't quite gotten turning to my right yet, but i can turn in full circles, stopping either in reverse or regular BTB and i'm still trying to convince my mom lol
