Fabric poi (also called sock poi) is a soft, lightweight style of poi where a weighted head sits inside a stretchy fabric pouch with a long tail. They're the most popular practice poi for beginners — soft enough to bounce off your body without hurting, but weighted enough to spin properly.
Why is fabric poi the best practice poi for beginners?
Soft impact — won't bruise when you hit yourself learning new moves.
Lightweight — easier on your wrists during long practice sessions.
Cheap poi option — fabric poi are one of the most affordable ways to start.
Visual feedback — the tail traces your motion so you can see your technique.
What's the difference between sock poi and fabric poi?
They're the same thing. "Sock poi" is the older name from when spinners used to make their own from tube socks and tennis balls. "Fabric poi" is the modern name for purpose-built versions — better weighted, longer-lasting, and properly stitched.
How do I choose my fabric poi length?
Use the distance from your thumb to your chest. S = short, M = medium, L = long. Shorter poi are easier to control; longer poi give you bigger, more dramatic shapes — but longer poi also limit some technical moves.
Why buy Sock Poi?
Our Sock Poi feature an opening in the side so you can change the weight or swap heads. The high-grade nylon spandex slides smoothly off the body and the stretch adds a cushioning effect that beginners love. The white Sock Poi has thin enough fabric to be used as a cover for LED poi too.
What are Tailed Poi?
Tailed poi add a colourful fabric ribbon behind the head that catches the air and traces your spin path. They look stunning as Day Poi for outdoor performance, and the trail helps both you and your audience follow the flow of movement.
Are fabric poi suitable for elderly spinners?
Yes — we have fabric poi designed specifically for elderly spinners and those with limited mobility. Softer impacts, lighter weight, easy-grip handles for arthritis, and shorter lengths suitable for spinning while seated.
Does Home of Poi offer a warranty?
Yes — every fabric poi comes with our 12-month warranty. If a fault occurs, we'll send free replacements with shipping paid by us. No need to send products back at your cost.

7th June, 2026 Pair of Fluffy Poi with Pro Strap Cole Cord Fluffy perfection "The finest fluffiest pair of poi I have ever had the pleasure of owning. They have survived countless festivals, winter camping, summer camping and flow jams without issue. I only ever need replacements whenever I sadly lose them or they otherwise leave my possession. Perfectly weighted for both slow and fast spinning without undue strain on your limbs. The only downside is that you might gain too many new friends who are also attracted to the superb fluffiness. I have and will continue to recommend these to everyone all the time." Knut, Norway. [Verified Buyer] GOLD Member since Jan 2015
14th July, 2025 Pair of Pro Glow Contact Poi Exactly what I wanted! "Im very satisfied with these poi! My boyfriend got Ultrapoi set so I felt left out and bought these. The ultrapoi ball is bigger and has led lights. This one is a smaller solid rubber ball. They feel lighter but they hit really hard lol. It s a great beginner set. Shipping was good, i bought these on 7/7 and received them on 7/14. Packaged well and I appreciate it came with a dust bag to store them in." Bradys, USA. 17th August, 2024 Pair of Cone Poi with Carry Bag Great Tools, a lot of chemicals "Everything regarding shipping, overall Quality and shipping time was awesome. Only 1 of the 20 pairs of poi had a small sewing-issue at the velcros, where the velcros came off partially while opening. Only optimization point: - a heavy chemical smell from all 3 components: the carry bag, the cone, as well as the balls for filling the poi. The fabric probably is not an eco-friendly organic cotton. There is some room for ecological improvement. Would recommend ordering at your shop if these points are integrated. Thanks a lot, anyways!" Antonios, Germany. Reply from Home of Poi: "We’re glad to hear that most of the poi sets met your expectations.
Regarding the concerns you mentioned about the chemical smell and the eco-friendliness of the materials, I’d like to share some details about our products. The poi weight balls are made from a soft shell fabric, and the inner filling is 100% recycled rubber, sourced from materials like used tires. The carry bag is sublimated to give it a fancy look.
We understand the importance of ecological responsibility, and we’re continuously exploring ways to improve the environmental friendliness of our products. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us make these advancements."

26th January, 2024 Pair of EMPTY Cone Poi Good enough "In December I ordered 5 pairs for teaching others. Unfortunately, 3 of the 10 are an inch shorter than the rest, and on the other 7 the inside seams are not overlocked, the hem is left loose and is already fraying. I ordered a pair of these over a decade ago, they've lasted me very well. The 'invisible' velcro seal, sturdy non-stretchy fabric and loops were major selling points to me. The construction seems otherwise the same standard, though these newer ones have slightly wider handles which is no problem at all. Unfortunately I'm concerned that this lack of quality control also suggests a general decline in quality overall. Where else are corners being cut?" Thenagain, United Kingdom.
