Right folks,

Less than 2 weeks to go so time for an update!

First piece of news is that I’ve actually managed to get a video done from last year. No fire footage unfortunately since the quality was too poor but I hope you like it anyway:

https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?a...c88c020aabfa4fa

And don’t forget to check out Guys punting tutorial vid too:

Next, on to plans for the day.

We will be meeting on Saturday 2nd May at 11:15 at The Granta pub (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=The+Granta+pub+cambridge&sll=52.160552,0.157095&sspn=0.255262,0.453186&ie=UTF8&ll=52.202399,0.113554&spn=0.006786,0.086002&z=14&iwloc=A).
They have a large outside decking area which we can invade and have a drink whilst we wait for the (inevitable) latecomers. Lunch isn’t a bad idea at this point too, unless you’re bringing food to eat on the punts, up to you!

We’ll leave the pub at 1:30 and go get us some punts and go for a little boat trip, probably for around 2 hours. Cost will be approximately £30 per punt, so for 6 people in a punt it works out at around a fiver.

We’ll spend the evening on a nearby grassy area by the river. There will be opportunities to buy food, drink and disposable barbeques to cook dinner on. There will be an opportunity for a burn at this stage.

Later on, or if its raining, we’ll go to the hall. There are some strict rules over use of the hall. Failure to observe these rules could have serious consequences to the future of the building, and our use of it, it is in a residential area so noise outside the hall must be kept to a minimum.

-no smoking in the hall at any time (even if its freezing/raining/a hurricane outside, sorry - they have fire alarms!)
-except for the main hall, no sleeping in the Howard Mallett building
-please make sure we have your name on an attendance register in case there's a fire
-no fire spinning in the grassy area outside the main hall, or the car park (there is a spot down the road where you can sate your pyromania if you haven't already, we will happily direct you there)
-Please, you MUST be quiet outside the building as we will be in the center of a residential area.

We will be making a small charge for staying in the hall, just to cover our costs. It is likely to be £3-4 depending on how many people turn up, we’ll keep it to an absolute minimum. I recommend that you bring a sleeping bag, and preferably something to sleep on as well, as the floor of the hall is very hard. Link to the evening venue map: https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...=11&iwloc=A
please call before turning up as we may still be outside playing

See you next week!

P.S. Link to last years vid will be added later when I've sorted out some problems I've had uploading it.

laugh3

according to the magic of facebook he's a definite, mind you I find that with facebook events the numbers you get are a only a vague indicator of how many people will turn up. The following is usually true for all facebook events (except where people have had to put money down beforehand):

If all the 'attending' people turn up I'll be surprised.

If more than 15% of the 'maybe attending' people turn up I'll be surprised.

If people randomly turn up who I had no idea were coming, I won't be suprised

Ahhh yeah I got caught out with one copyrighted track on there for one of my Poi videos. But luckily enough the artists agent was a nice guy and let me use it!

Roadrunner Records got into a dispute with them as well about putting up official videos, even thought it was bands for their label! Don't know what that was about but it's messed up tongue2

***UPDATE***

Hey guys and gals,
here is a reminder of the main points of poi in the punt

this map has the main points of interest on it:

https://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?hl=en&a...mp;t=h&z=19

ok so order of the day (2nd May in case you forgot wink ):

meeting in the Granta pub from 11.30 staying there til about 1.30 while we collect people

1.30 - 2pm sorting out punts, herding cats

2-4pm punting on the river

4-5pm chanceto get some supplies for the evening barbeque

5pm- whenever (probably about 10pm) barbeque on grantchester meadows (provisional site- as marked on map), fire spinning etc.

whenever - 7am indoor location ( citilife centre) for night of spinning and stuff

a couple of notes on the hall:

there will be music in the citilife centre, we've been asked not to bring a rig, but we have a serviceable CD player there. Please bring a CD of stuff if you want to make requests!

We've been asked to not spin any glowy stuff outside the citilife centre, but there will be a clearly signposted smoking area. Also we are aiming to have half the hall dark so that people can spin glowy stuff.

There is a kitchen, with kettle and sink, so bring a mug if you fancy a brew.

There are some seats in the hall, but if you're planning on getting some kip, bring some bedding!

Apparently the smoke alarms are hypersensitive so please don'ty smoke in the hall (even while leaning out of the window, in the kitchen or on the loo)

We will need to take everyone's name for fire safety reasons. The likely charge will be £3 (covering rental costs) but this may go up or down depending on numbers on the day.

if you get to cambridge and are totally lost/confused, use these numbers:

Guy's Mobile 07890595453
Tom's mobile 07808590911

seee you on saturday!!

Guy

Disclaimer: the times above are for guidance only, as they don not take into account cat herding, hippies or general slackness
