G'day forumers,

As this is me introducing myself, i thought i might as well do it in the introductions forum. Tadaa. Don't really know what to expect from this place or how much time i'll spend here, but what i've seen so far (been mainly downloading vids) i like.

I started twirling -with a long staff- about 3 years ago, and've loved the staff ever since i first picked it up. I've loved it constantly, though have had some decent periods without practice, due to heavy school -then uni- workloads. But i'm getting better at procrastinating these days so i'm finding time for fun things. In trying to decide what to do for fun i came across the strange fact that is, though i've loved fire staff twirling for a while, i've never before tried fire poi twirling. So! i'm gonna go buy me some poi asap, and hopefully with the help of this site have some fun with 'em.

It looks much harder than staff, or is this just me? Poi looks less intuitive, if that makes any sense. I think it seems this way because they create and maintain alot of their own momentum which exists independent from the actual twirlers actions. I feel in control of a staff as if i stop moving my hands, the staff'll usually stop too. But this is not so with the poi! so i have a feeling i might take a little longer to get into any goodlooking moves with the poi than i did with the staff.

Anyway, if anyone wants to gimme any tips on how best to start in the world of poipoi, or just say 'ahhulloooo amateur', whack a reply below! biggrin

Heyla, Incendia! We share a common affliction. School has been running me a little ragged myself, and only recently have I began to find time to light up my toys again. I am actually in the opposite situation, fire-wise. I've been spinning poi for a while now, and only recently taken up staff. Good luck with your adventures in poi spinning - I think you'll find that a lot carries over.

Happy spinning!
