I'm wondering if anyone knows of a web site that shows pictures of aged Tattoos. There are hundreds and hundreds of brand new shiny clean edged tattoos but i can't seem to find any with aged tattoos on them. I want pictures to show someone how tattoos age and blur. If there is a site that shows photos of the tattoo new then it again say 5-10 years on that would be great.

I was going to post and say "I wish I could help you, but my tattoo's have only been part of me for three years."

Then I counted, and it's actually closer to 5 years!

OMG, now I feel old!

So, I could let you see mine, but I'm not sure if I still have any pics of when they were new.

But, I'm still in shock at being so old frown

my mum has several tattoo's that she's had for a while, and all thats really happened is the brightness of the colour has faded, so instead of it standing out, it in some ways looks like it should be there, i'll try to get some pics

i've only had mine 4 years, but it's faded a bit..... still pretty though....

don't know of any websites......maybe you should ask a tattooist? they're less likely to display pics of old tattoos for obvious reasons, but they might have some they can show you...

I found it tickled more than hurt. It only stang a bit on the sticky- outy boney bits. For me at least. You cant really notice its stabbing you (unless you look at the needle) its too fast. smile

Mine isnt old enough so i cant help you out there.

as I work in ITU I see a lot of peoples bodies and alot of older bodies I have noticed that on elderly people with tattoos that they start to spared kind of like if you try to draw on blotting paper all the edges start to go blurry.

but it only seems to happen when you age not as the tattoo ages, erm confused how to explain ubbidea as the skin gets older, only really seen this effect in the over 60's wink

one thing I have noticed is any of the older generation tattoos I have seen the quality/detail is never that good whether it was the style/fashion I don't know or iv just seen crap work or what????

Besides, this is pretty informational for those who might be concidering tats.

The pain really depends on your personal thresh-hold and where you get it on your body...and also how long you sit in the chair. I've had my tats done in places where I barely felt it at all and also done in places where it immediately made tears jump to my eyes.

My first tat I have had for 13 years now, and it isn't blurry or anything. It is tremendously faded however (though that tattist use a crappy incosistent ink & technique, so I had to have it redone, but you can still see parts of the original.)

My Great-Uncle was 70 when he died and his tats weren't bad looking at all. Faded but not all blurry and fuzzy.

With the quality/detail thing it wasn't the style or fashion, it was the quality of the tools. Many make-shift, home-made or low end tat guns (which going back to the 1940's is pretty much what they had) don't produce the clean sharp lines they do today. If you go into a tat shop you will find there are several different needles for edging, outlining, filling in, smallish details, even special ones for the strong black tribal designs. That was not available when many of the older guys (and the carnie tattooed ladies) had theirs done, so the quality is not as high as what you will find today, and is also why you will find many older people will go in and have their tats retouched to sharpen them up.
The technology has upgraded conciderably, but not changed outright. It is still something sharp shoving ink into your flesh.

As to why people get them Carnival....most people I know who get them is for deeply personal meanings..not for masochism or because other people have them.

Mine serve two purposes...one is as a memorial/album of where I have been and people/places/things in my life, the other is a reminder of who I am/ have been along my journey. I view the body as a blank canvas, just ready to be painted. It has nothing to do with the pain, that part sucks and the sound is annoying but I feel it is worth it. In fact, I take alot of comfort from one of my tats actually. They have incredibly deep meanings to me (as do the ones my friends have as well), and I can not wait to get more work done.

For many, and this is a throw back to many tribal cultures and contemporary sub-cultures (gangs, military, etc..), tattoos are a rite of passage...a symbol of growth, change and belonging.

My Uncle was a tat artist. I have a passion for body art and am a body artist myself. My son is already wanting his first tattoo (he has to wait until he is 18, and follow my rules about it! ubblol ). Sometimes it is also a legacy.

it took me 12 years from first wanting a tatt to actually getting the one i wanted, all be it i knew exactly when i did the doodle and 45 min later it was being done.

now all i need to do is have the money for my brambles and get the design finished (Gothy brambles are hard) and then when thats done i can add bits to it over time. IMO tatts are always a work in progress, and are symbolic to things that have happened in my life

I've got two little tatts. A heart on my right wrist that I inked on myself and a heartagram (the symbol used by H.I.M) in the middle of my back. I'm planning on getting a phoenix on my right arm (designed by a friend) and the greek letter omega on the back of my neck around the little bump of bone (the symbol used by the band I'm in). Does anyone else know if the back of the neck hurts much? I'm slightly paranoid due to the position.
