So, yeah, hi. I'm a lifelong pyro (not really an exaggeration - my brother convinced me at just under 2 to climb up on the electric stove and then turned it on - apparently when my pajamas started smoking he ran for the 'rents - and I didn't even cry. Seems I liked it even then.) and have for several years been mesmerized by fire-spinning but confined myself to dancing with votives and stuff. Several months ago I decided why not expand my repertoire. Of course, having made that decision, I didn't do much about it. Stumbled upon HoP and have been lurking here for a month or so now. Then two weeks ago I started poi classes at a studio I found through HoP - and when I'm utilizing the HoP services, seemed like the thing to register and throw myself into it. Poi is addictive, so good to get a line on pushers right away..... I'm hoping eventually to understand some of these complicated moves that are discussed here and maybe boost my progress a bit, since in the class I'm taking, we're not allowed to light up for 7 weeks. 7 weeks with no fire?? Had to try to do something about that. (But don't want a repeat of the burnt pajama episode, so want to learn the right way. And since I've already hit myself in the head a few times, I'm thinkin' that their rule is not a bad one, or my hair would be on fire. redface Jim Morrison's LA Woman, I don't want to be.)

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say thanks to all you who are sharing your knowledge and resources. thankx

Hi!

Ya know, I go in phases on pink. Or maybe it just depends on the item. Had my hair pink for a while. Loved that. But pink clothes not so much. Then, around thanksgiving, I acquired a pink sweater that I love. And my practice poi are pink (well, one set; the other is pink and red). Pink is sort of baby red. Kinder, gentler red. Maybe. Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about....

What is your connection to pink?

My conncetion to pink?

Well... i originally had some pink poi... and was called pink poi. And my mate had pink flags and was called pink flags (she's Juice now). I dropped the "poi" in my name and became Pink...?

The whole not lighting up thing, a good idea. Heard a sob story about a guy who got fire chains for his first set, bonked a flaming poi on his head and ended up with a nasty burn and now his hair won't grow back. devil

but I know it is tempting!

Hey, GothFrogette! Thanks for saying hi! hug

And now I feel bad - for quite a while I didn't know how to check my thread - and so I haven't even seen some of these responses. So thanks to the rest of you too, who welcomed me even when I'm a HoP moron. redface

shen, don't know if that's a standard welcome, or whether it's obvious how true that is for me. Or maybe it's true for most people who find their way here. Whichever. Thanks.

Ry, don't know how you discerned the pink hair, but also true. Although not currently. I have my 'summer hair' now, with some blonde streaks.

Wonder Monkey, hope you have picked up the fire by now. I have about 4 or 5 times now. A totally new level!! I've seen a monkey house thread - realized that, though I can't spell, I might qualify and have been thinking about looking for it again. Have you visited?

okay, I'm thinkin' this reply is as long as my entire thread, so I better shut up. (Can you tell I'm glad to be here? ubbrollsmile)

So is poi is the meaning of life - and everyone everywhere is building towards this? (Malcolm's gonna need more bandwidth...) Or is it just hoppers and hoppers-to-be?

Thanks!

I don't know how I am. had my "final exam" in hoop dance last night, but I didn't read the syllabus, so I didn't know. That sinking feeling walking into a test you're not prepared for is worse when it's a performance and you're being videoed. eek But it kinda turned out okay, and I'm glad I did it at least. smile

How's your staff?
