when I was hitching from Luxemberg to calais the other week I was asked this question: What do you want to be when you grow up.
I thought this was a bit of a silly question cos im 26.
but the answer I gave him was that I dont want to grow up.
And if i ever do I dont want to be a truck driver. unless the cab happend to have room to do 7 balls in.
he laughed at me and agreed that growing up was the worst thing that can happen to you.

all of a sudden you cant get away with the things you used to.
and you spend your time looking back at what you could have done.
so dont that is what i say, live a little and dont think of growing up to quickley
but when i do grow up im going to be the best juggler in the whole of the WORLD. juggle

ive always hated this question, and unfortunatly i get asked it often by awkward adults(usually friends of parents) who dont know how else to start a conversation with a youngin like me, but honestly i dont want to think about it, there are so many things id like to experiance before i decide, and since Trillian is off on vacation i will post for her(sorry);

Trillians three answers:

i dont plan on growing up

a dragon

a pirate

If you want to go travel, then the best way I have found is to learn to do some sort of juggling, eg; balls, clubs, diabolo, staff, poi or the like. that way you can go to a town or a city and make some money for a room and some food in most places round the world.

When I grow up I want to be younger.

I haven't the foggiest idea what I want to be. I can often get bored with things quite easilly, but I don't like change. I'd like a simple job, that's pretty challenging. So contradicting.

I'd also like to have a go at being a lollipop laydee at some point. ubbtickled

Ok, so I decided I wanted to be a doctor when I was 17. Before that, I wanted to be a lawyer (yeah, I know...nice Jewish boy...), before that, I wanted to be an engineer, but I realized that I hate math. And before that, I wanted to be an inventor (the engineer thing happened after I realized that there is no such job description as "inventor.")

I decided I wanted to be a doctor when I took AP Biology in the 11th grade. I was so fascinated by everything I was learning, but I wanted a practical application, so I studied (and loved) biology in college, even got a Masters in it, but the true moment of wonder and awe hit me when I started to learn about and understand the workings of the human body. I am learning how it works!!!

It's like learning to play a sensitive instrument that has a mind of its own. And yet, as amazed as I am by everything I have learned, I am humbled and awe-struck at how much I still don't know.

How could I ever have considered doing anything else?

I thought this was a bit of a silly question cos im 26.

I'm 26 too - And i don't know what i want to be, fell into admin cause i had to do something, but also taking time out of reality in less than 2 months to travel the world for however long i'm gone, I'm hoping to maybe find some inspiration on what i want to be, to find something i want to do with a passion, and when i come home, study to make what i want to do a reality. Hoping seeing and doing different things in different places, and being in a kind of homeless-jobless-out of comfortzone limbo will open up my eyes to how much is possible ubbrollsmile

I always wanted to be an author.

Since I was young I was always really good with my imagination and putting strange little ficticious stories onto paper.

I even won Young Australian Writer of the Year once for one of the lovely stories I wrote.

But as I got older and things happened in my life I found my writing hit a brick wall which I have neither been able to climb over, walk around or crawl under.

So I guess the next best thing for me is to keep learning my languages and hope that it will get me out of this hellish job that I am in now as a Customer Service Officer for the government.

It sounds super corny...But I dont really know what I wanna be, so in ten years, I want to be able to say that I'm happy in whatever I end up doing - I'm in a bit of a rut at the moment and not really very happy, so to be able to say that I am happy would be pretty good I reckon...

I always wanted to be an author.

Me too, but finding time to write between work and friends and life is hard.... got a couple of hundred pages of a novel under my belt which i've been working on for years.... so i suppose there is hope yet... but have spent so long changing/adding/revising that i'm half afraid i'll never finish..... I always had such big dreams as a kid, and always thought everything i wanted would be so easy to get when i grew up.... and now it seems thats not always so and achieving the things you want takes some effort....

I smile because i have no idea whats going on!! biggrin

Isn't it sickening how kids want to grow up so fast now. They seem to spend about 7 years as kids then fall into feeling obliged to wear makeup, talk about boys and generally behave as little idiots while thinking they look cool. Children should be forced to be children until the moment you need them to clean the chimneys.

Anyway, I'd like to do comics professionally, but I'm working on my backup plan right now which is driving a huge truck and blowing stuff up. I'm applying for various mining engineering positions.

I'd like to be happy in whatever blah blah blah, but in the meantime, I have explosives.

There is a slight possibility that I am not actually right all of the time.

I was 20 when I finally decided what I wanted to be when I grow up. Now I am 34 and still working hard to get there.

I want to be an Astronaut. Not only that, but I want to be the first 2nd-generation astronaut. My father was an Astronaut and I grew up with the space program. As far as I can tell, I am the only one in the running for first 2nd-generation astronaut. The Russians have already selected a couple 2nd-generation cosmonauts, but neither have flown yet.

I put my first application in last year, which was the first selection cycle I met the minimum requirements for. I didn't get selected (out of the 2000+ trying for 11 positions), but I'm not discouraged - pretty much no one gets in the first time they apply.

I even put "fire performance" under "hobbies and other interests" on my application.

Anyway. I doubt I'll ever actually get into the astronaut corps, but at least I tried and will keep trying, which is more than can be said for any other astronaut brat to date.

i have no idea what i want to be when i grow up. i'm 34 and not planning on growing up anytime soon biggrin

at a bit of a crossroads in my life at the moment, that generally tends to happen every few years anyway, as i've a very low attention span, and don't seem to stick at anything for too long.

did a degree in fashion design. worked at that for a few years, then moved to company in holland & designed the interiors of rich folks' private jets.

currently back in ireland working as a dutch translator / vat consultant, but this kinda work is rather soul-destroying so i'm off to travel the world for a year or so in october.

been contemplating going down the holistic / alternative medicine route... but haven't really made my mind up yet.....

i'd LOVE to be an astronaut though!! my fav song of all time is 'fly me to the moon'..... ubbrollsmile

My mind not only wanders, it sometimes leaves completely smile
