I made a new year's resolution to drink more tea and tonight I am making good on my promise. I am drinking a large mug of herbal tea.
What I love about tea is the civility of the occasion. Yes, tea is an occasion. Whether it has caffeine or not, the act of preparing a cup of tea, boiling the water, finding the teabag, and waiting for it to brew are a ritual in patience. It's a simple procedure that allows me to meditate on a subject when I want to, or clear my thoughts and just watch the water boil.
The Japanese (and the English) have developed elaborate ceremonies aroudn this wonderful beverage. Tea is a break in the day to both cultures. It is a time to stop, sit back, savor life, reflect on the day, and then proceed, calmed and refreshed.
Drinking tea is another exercise in patience and calm. The tea comes boiling hot, and the wait for it to cool invites other activities, like reading, thinking, studying, listening to music, or...posting on HOP. Rather than gulping it down in the same way that I tend to rush through the rest of my life, the heat of a cup of tea acts as a governor. I can drink no more quickly than I tolerate the heat.
And so I sit.
And sip.
And savor.
My cup of hot tea.

I think you are refering to a COFFEE PRESS. They are wonderful! You can use them with Tea as well I think they are really called French Presses.
Although Coffee is a Plunger
afetr a big cup of coffee I have to go take the browns to the super bowl! 
Tea does not have the same effect.
Coffee in the morning... Tea at night, is my motto

coffe is for when you cant be faffed for tea.
tea is so good. just a straight foreward cup of (as my mum would say) 'builders tea'.
that beats any arty farty earl grey tea or green tea, or any of that non sense any day. tea to me should be deffinetly be that brown colour. you can tell how good it is by its colour. too brown and you can almost feel it turning your insides tea coloured, but too white, and you put too much milk in or the tea was made about 3 hours earlier.
put the milk in first, this enables a good easy mix, it also warms up a bit. (while you are waiting for kettle) meaning it cools the hot water down less. the tea pot should be heated up with boiling water first to ensure a hot cup. one spoon of tea leaves in the pot for every person plus one for the pot/

As for me, I enjoy tea AND coffee AND hot apple cider AND wassle AND CHAI! Don't forget about chai.. unless that counts as tea in which case I enjoy tea times two!

ince i started buying teaDirect i can't drink any other kind. All other tea tastes bitter now (and not only cos the people who picked it get paid enough). I've become one of the sad people who carry teabags round in a little holder thing and just ask for hot water with sugar!

well i'm a very healthy eater. I don't really like sweet sugary stuff except in tea and on cornflakes - so i allow myself. I think my teeth will survive it!

Although it wasn't quite as magical as some of you may have set it up to be, *coughpeaches* I did enjoy it, and it actually put me to sleep. I don't like the non-herbal teas, though. They just taste funny. and green tea is just sick. But my cup of blueberry tea was something to enjoy; this I will admit.

blueberry tea must have been nice but the best cup of tea is a strong one with 4 sugars in it and isnt too hot that way it is lovely and warm and feels like a warm bath for your organs

I'm a milk in first kinda guy, but because I like milky tea and to brew it in the milk makes it less bitter for me.
I think the boilING/ED issue is to do with how much tea you extract from the leaves, I think just above boiling point is the most efficient or something.
And as for mushrooms in tea.........last time I tried it was when I was near your house at the end of June last year visiting the Anuual Pilton Farm Community Performance Arts & Music Festival otherwise known as Glasto by the non-locals. I couldn't possible comment on the results of that here but I can say I didn't inhale once!!

everyone clearly feels very strongly about tea dont they??
im agreeing stringly with the 'builders tea' philosophy. i just dont get on with these herbal concoctions at all. they smell nice but they taste horrible.
the only herbal tea i ever liked was in the czhech republic. they made a huge (like 10 gallon..ummm 50 ish litres) drum of herbal tea in the morning and the whole camp drank it all day. it warmed you up in the morning and colled and refreshed in the afternoon. if anly i knew what it was.
at our house we have the tea by the 'co-op standard' milk 2 sugars strong enough to tan leather, and no fancy teabags. tea bags come in a box with PG on the side.
fancy herbal manky fruity non tea tea. it comes under the heading of poncy food. like escalopes of anything.
what is an escalope???

i dont get time sit and enjoy a cup of tea in teh day, im to busy most days!
i used to love sitting down with two or three ppl on teh floor and sipping tea in eth temple post mediation it was so nice, just comtemplating what ppl say and being happy!
i rekomend it to anyone, its so nice!

I've just had a cup of tea out of the vending machine at work cuz I forgot to bring my supplies in this morning and it was foul....why is machine tea always so gross?! Although allegedly it's PG Tips I have my suspicions that it isn't, mostly based on the fact that it tastes like the insides of a heavily worn shoe.

then again i like eating saltidelicious danish spunk (the fruity kind is good too)
one for all you web hounds to find out what it is.
but i agree any hot beverage produced by a machine is terrible.

sure - i've had lots of practice cos there's 7 people in my house and i make tea for all of them. I know off by heart how they all take their tea now - it's a bonding thing!

By any chance are they little sweeties that comes in a small box with SPUNK written on the front (red and yellow logo?)and the sweeties are non to dissimilar from little tadpole shapes which is quite disturbing! I have a box here somewhere from my working travels a few years back

Too bad I can't have it like this. I can't have much sugar (hypoglycemic), and so non-herbal teas taste like crap. But I suppose TO YOU it must be good, but I'll still savor my coffee... I'm in love with the smell.

the salty stuff is really strong locorice *sp licorice licorish oh i cant remember how to spell it.
there is a house up the road stuffed full of danish people they help me a lot with making kit. they are a bit odd. constant sour salty sweets and chocolate milkshake.

there is a house up the road stuffed full of danish people they help me a lot with making kit. they are a bit odd. constant sour salty sweets and chocolate milkshake.

Coffee is also good. I also like it but try to limit my intake. because I have trouble sleeping. As a rule I won't allow myself to drink coffee after 4 pm.
This is because, as Dom said, caffeine is a drug and has a half-life of 6 hours. For more info try how stuff works . I assure you it's very intersting, especially around why it keeps you awake
Herbal tea's are also lovely, especially late at night and not wanting caffiene or to have to get out of bed to nap in the 'rest-room' at night. I like most of the fruity ones
