i'm trying to get into changing this intro from time to time - at the very least to keep the music and films bit 'up to date'.

location: i live in a veritable castle in leytonstone in east london with my beautiful girlfriend
i used to go to lots of workshops but i have to admit, its a fairly rare occurance these days.

toys: i play poi and juggle balls. every now and again (like most people i think) i pick up other toys but am worse at all of these than i am at the keeping balls in the air thing - 97531, drop, drop, drop, drop, drop.
been twirling: since may 2002.
i could do the basic stuff (just a fwd and rev 3bt weave and a fwd butterfly) back in nov 2001 but then went and did a snowboard season in the alps and forgot everything.
when i came back, i discovered one of my best friends had learnt loads!
so summer 2002, i was in the lucky position of being around wikid poi people every weekend and having a friend acting almost as a personal tutor during the week.
big love and respect to jonny moohaahaa and fairie cath for all your patience, effort, guidance and days and days of playtime!
i began learning to juggle in august or september of 2002.
recent manipulation trends: been playing with one and two 4" stage balls quite a bit whilst wiggling bits of my body, learning to juggle 5 balls all over again, 3 ball body throws, getting confused about antispin, balancing things on my head and spinning a ball on my finger.
occupation: db admin and layout & design (similar to a porn star, just in an office). i work for a small, law firm in their information and research department. i also handle all of the firm's dtp, digital publishing and commercial print. aerotech toys aren't cheap and since my body won't ever make me rich, i have resorted to something a little more conventional
hobbies: bammy , this stuff, music, collecting things (i'm very bad for this) and boarding (although my skating is now non-existent due to me being crap and it hurting too much so just snow when i can afford it).
music: i like pretty much all of it. current playlist includes TOOL, RADIOHEAD, THE ROOTS, D'ANGELO and JEFF BUCKLEY, (and the rest) wayne shorter, a perfect circle, billie holiday, jill scott, joni mitchell, saul williams, john coltrane, soad, dj shadow, roy hargrove, 4-tet, edith piaf, cat empire, faith no more...
movies: recently seen... old boy
team america, the last samurai, the ladykillers, the eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, shaolin kung fu master, jackie brown, shrek 2, shogun assassin, midnight express, lotr, seven samurai & magnificent seven double bill, kill bill 1 & 2, confessions of a dangerous mind, eraserhead, princess mononoke, a beautiful mind, pay it forward, adaptation, waking life.
favourites... shogun assassin, requium for a dream, anything by lynch, kevin smith or the coen brothers or anything written by charlie kaufmann.
books: recent... hiding the elephant, illuminatus trilogy, philosophical investigations, a book on nlp, shogun, oracle night, peter cook '...only twin', the curious incident of the dog in the night time, lord of the rings trilogy (first time ever - it didn't disappoint!), the complete winnie-the-pooh collection, of mice and men, vurt (again), chocky, brave new world, dune, falling out of cars, alice's adventures in wonderland.
favourite authors... jeff noon, iain banks, robert anton wilson and comic/graphic novel writers that only fanboys like me have ever heard of (brian michael bendis, j. m. staczynski, kevin smith, alan moore, greg rucker, brian azzarello).
tv: was invented solely to distribute the league and the boosh to the masses.

i never had a favourite number until last year so i thought i may as well put it up here with the rest of the useless information.
and a quick note about that orange 'grumpy' face on the top of all my posts - i'm not mean or unhappy, nor does it suggest that i'm angry in every post i make.
i just think its cooler than the regular pin-in-a-post-it message icon. and it makes it easy to spot my own posts cos it rarely gets used by anyone else. and its orange and black.

just so we don't descend into the ramblings of madmen, the things i think you are arguing are:
- hiphop is american by default and people that build on the culture overseas are, in actual fact, diluting the culture by claiming to be part of it. [the purist argument]
- uk hiphop (if we can call it that) does not produce material of comparable quality to that that the us artists produce.
if i'm wrong on either of these, please ignore whatever i have to say from here on and go put on 'paid in full' and follow it with 'run come save me'

but most of those 'better' artists do not produce quality any more (see jay-z as an example of someone that i think was super talented but lost his inspiration somewhere along the way).
hiphop in america is over 25 years old whereas it is less than 10 in the uk so you have so many more artists.
the same thing is apparent when you consider that america is huge and as such, your point above applies both ways - for every british artist i can name ten american ones that are worse.

i'm saying we ain't as far 'behind' as you've seem to have concluded we are just from your experiences of going to a gig in sheffield and spending a summer in scotland.
on many levels, especially djing, i would bet the uk scene is better than it is in a lot of american cities, and more importantly, i think british hiphop (unlike american hiphop today) holds dear the ideals that hiphop held when it was in its infancy (the first 15 or so years before it became truly commercialised).
our scene may be small, but it produces quality artists and products that we can be proud of.
'quality over quantity' represents the crux of my feelings on this.
your other argument was the purist argument and i'm hard against that.
i don't buy into the argument that hiphop is not an international culture.
if you consider that any hiphop outside inner city america is a dilution of the culture i think you're denying the influences that american hiphop has gained from the artists that experience the culture worldwide.
hiphop was born in new york city and it will always be at home there.
but babies grow up, they leave home and when they return, they have grown, developed and become more complete as a result.
you have to let go sometime...

I know that Hip Hop is very strong in the UK.
I also know that I absolutely missed all the hip hop in the UK despite my best efforts.
I know that the average quality of Hip Hop in the UK is better on average (what?) wait... no hear me out... because there is NO demand for BAD hip hop in the UK whereas BAD hip hop sells in the US. In other words, if you're going to produce Hip Hop in an environment that isn't begging for Hip Hop (Like the UK vs. NYC) then it better be good enough.
I'm actually often surprised how influential New York City is in the Hip Hop scene. If the NYC Subway authority had been more vigilant about repainting it's subway cars in the 70s and NYC radio stations had refused to play rap... Hip Hop would be a shell of what it is now.
Even today, if you measure the influence of just a single New York Radio station in the GLOBAL hip hop world, it's pretty amazing.
If Hot 97 doesn't play 50 Cent, there is no 50 Cent.
Also... on a different note... can you explain the lack of British representation on this?
It's a BBC site after all. Where all the UK hip hop at?

man, that juggling convention was sooooooooo good!
great juggling space, tonnes of workshops, loads of friends and an awesome show.
i wanna go again!
turns out i'm doing loads in march now - saltimbanco, synergy, chemical bros, falmouth...
april is good though
today is a good day because i am alive (in all the good ways), its spitz tonight and my digital camera should get delivered at some point and will be waiting at home for me tomorrow... 
to anyone who reads this, may your day be blessed with smiles and extra kisses

so yesterday i went home and there was this waiting for me:

and get a padded bag so i don't break it.
and a bigger card so i can take more than 4 photos before its full
expect my gallery to get very full, very fast
i watched ghost dog again last night.
it f*ckin rocks.
it has a slick story with a slant, a ridiculously well suited soundtrack, great characters and one of the best looking brindle stafs i've ever seen
i might even watch it again on friday (whilst doing my nursey bit).
