BTN - stands for Burn the Nose MMFB (also called buzz saw)

Thanks for the positive replies folks , I had been thinking about this move ever since I started breathing but didnt have the guts to try it until about a month ago. Started with small breathes and built my way up, now I can manage to do almost a full poi set and then breathe at the end. I try not to do this too often as I dont like having paraffin in my mouth for that long but I am also thinking of trying out my plattypus (handsfree drinking thing) to just take a mouthful whenever I need it.

I have also tried breathing from a couple of other moves but it is really hard to get the timing right, with BTN I have my chains a lot shorter than normal ant there is almost a constant ring of fire which makes the breathing quite easy.

Also a little reminder to anyone reading this thread - Please, Please, Please, make sure you know what you are doing if you attempt to fire breathe, be around others that also know what they are doing and know how to deal with any mishaps that may occur. Breathing while doing poi is even more dangerous, if you look at the circle from my BTN in the piccies it is slightly broken this is because I am hardly concentrating on doing the poi moves but instead I am fully focused on the breathe.

Play safely,

Mark P

Cheers blaze that is a lot better thanks also kyrian and unicorn *hugs* all round

Rex - try a camping or bike shop, they should have some sort of hands free drinking systems that basically comprise of a small rucksac with the water container inside and a tube that comes out for you to drink from.

Markus - my best bit of advice I can give you about firebreathing is to learn from someone that has been doing it for a while, I waited until I found someone that could teach me the basics and also read up what I could from HoP before I started.

Here is a link to the home of poi information

Most of all be careful,

No worries Marcus glad to be of help.

Since no-one has else has claimed this move does that mean I get to call it something without angering bender?? - Maybe something like Breathe the Nose

I like to do this as well for added "Wow" during a performance. It's definitely easier to do than with a B-fly or windmill. (I have sprayed huge mouthfuls of fuel all over the floor before!) But you definitely beat me to posting it. Kick ass pictures! I'm very impressed! Rock on, Mark!

I will have to add to what you said about safety. I usually do the blow within the first minute. It is very easy to get caught up in spinning and not concentrate on the fact that you have poison in your mouth. And it is easy to lean your head back and choke down some of the fuel accidentally. Be careful!!! It takes a lot of concentration.

Excellent job on the pictures!

FREE TIBET!!! (with the purchase of a 44 oz. drink)What do you want to be when you grow up?I want to be a kid again!I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I am not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.~~~J~~~

Yep glowshow, when I am doing a set with paraffin in my mouth I only do moves that I am 100% happy with, that way I really dont need to concentrate - I can just dance and concentrate on keeping the paraffin in my mouth.

The longest I have had to keep it in my mouth was when my safety was having trouble keeping people away from me at a party a few weeks ago, it almost got to the stage where I was going to spit it out and ask people (for about the 4th time!) to stay back. In the end it was ok though a small controlled breathe showed them what was happening and then I got a chance to do it properly once they started listening to my safety

This is a little bit of a change is subject, but looking at those pictures has inspired my practice. I can do BTN as forward or backward roll, and even have it moving smoothly in and out of the weave.

but the one thing I cannot figure out for the life of me is how to do the butterfly style BTN. I've seen Nasu do it, and it looks like he is has the poi right inside of each other's circles. Can you have it make the X as they cross each other like they do in perpendicular to the body butterfly? With BTN, you have a hand on either side of the trick, while in perpendicular Butterfly, your hands are on the same side. It seems like this will make them cross no matter what. Do you keep them apart from each other, just so close that a viewer can't tell, or what?

help!!!

Heres an idea Mark, light one poi, start with a burn the nose, and try get the other poi lit from the fire breathe.

Flame might not be "constant" enough to work, but it'd make an interesting start if u aced it

Its a fish!

MENTAL!! I tried it the other nite but with he poi doing a circle parallell to me instead of at right agles to my bod. The first blow didnt ignite so I tried it again and this time it worked! Problem is I was so impressed with what I had just accomplished, I swallowed the rest of the kero in my mouth! No probs, I was just burping up kero all the next day!!
Im such a dumbass sometimes.. Anyway, P, your an inspiration, keep up the good work. Were all watching @ the Poi Palace!!

Cheers Scarebear,

Swallowing paraffin/kero really isnt very good for you so please, please be careful.

I only do moves that I am 110% happy with while I have a mouthful of paraffin. I am not trying to preach here but we all know what has happened in the cases of Pele and Liam and I dont want to be seen to be promoting a dangerous combination of poi and firebreathing without warning people.

Apart from that if you are aware of the dangers, have a good safety and have practiced lots then have fun

Yeah, when I heared about Pele it kinda freaked me out a bit. We all play with fire here in the hostel, and do some pretty funky stuff, but it made me realise that I dont give fire the respect that it deserves. So now I dont do stuff unless im happy i can pull it off. I heared that keeping metho or stuff like that in your mouth for prolonged periods of time (in order to blow @ the end of the routine) can make you feel drunk quite quickly. Is it the same with kero? There was a german guy here the other day telling me about some stuff called pyro fluid which is specially made for breathing fire. I found a german website that sells it, but its a tad pricey.
Anyway, thanks for the warning P, and dont think your preaching. Im open to any info which is going to help me keep my slippery grip on reality!!

Thats great scarebear

I do do some routines where I keep paraffin in my mouth for a substantial ammount of time but I am also aware that it is not really that good for you.

I tend to have a drink of milk before I do any firebreathing and that coats the mouth a little so makes it a little bit nicer.
