Just out of curiosity, did you guys learn the forward 5-beat weave first or the reverse 5-beat weave?

Forwards, and then backwards about five months later.

Forward about two months into practicing, then reverse about three days later. That was about six months ago and I'm just now getting BTB 5 in reverse but still not forward.

Ok, i gather most people learn the forward 5-beat first. Next question, WHY did you decided to learn the forward first instead of the reverse?

Simply because I could do the forward three beat better than the reverse.

reverse here..

why? because I was talking on the phone and pretending I had poi in my hands and realised hey its the backwards 5 beat and it was... therefore no real reason.

I think most people go for forward first because when you screw up, the poi are heading for your shins as opposed to your head.

Hmm. 5 beat forward always seems to be "heading for the balls" rather than shins. Then again, I bought a cup and learned the forward first anyways...

Reverse first - just seemed easier. Then it took me ages to work out forwards.

Dut - guess it all depends how long your poi are and how high you spin.

Yeah, im the same, kim!
i find the tutorials on the site a little confusing.. while trying to get the 5 beat forward. i managed to fluently get a 7 beat weave! although the chains do twist around your hands, and when theyre on fire, i guess it would burn hey?
but does anyone have a different version of a tutorial for the foreward one? An idiot proof one perhaps??
